Shutting the Door

Yesterday: Kristin Chenoweth requested that some doors be closed. She was pretty insistent about it, so if I were you, I'd get on that.

The opening group dance has Melanie front-and-center, which is something I approve of. I flip-flop between Sasha and Melanie, so they're my co-favorites. It's a refreshingly unencumbered dance. The outfits are simple and grey, and there aren't any props to wave around. There might not even be a story. It's just some limber kids hopping around to music from The Incredibles. Very pleasant. Good work, Michael Rooney.

The judges, once again, are Nigel, Mary, Kristin Chenoweth, and Li'l C. Cat reminds us about all the kissing yesterday, and also Kristin's thing about the doors. Then Kristin gets to plug her country album and we see a clip of the music video. It looks fine.

It's time to start breaking some hearts! The first three couples come out. Melanie and Marko were fantastic yesterday, even if all Cat wants to talk about is the kiss at the end. I think the recap should contain all dancing, and less shots of judges making out. Melanie and Marko have another kiss backstage. They're adorable, aren't they? And they're safe, obviously. Don't be dumb. Cat makes them kiss again and sends them offstage.

Ashley and Chris had that Sonya dance where their faces were half-zombie. Go ahead and do a Google Image Search "Retting to Rumble" to see what was I was reminded of during this routine. Somebody owes Retting royalties! Anyway, they're in the bottom three.

Ryan and Ricky had the other Sonya dance, plus the enmity of everyone who loved anyone who went home last week. I thought they'd be in the bottom three, but this is kind of early for a second couple to be in danger. And, in fact, they're safe and will be back to bedevil us for another week.

National Dance Day again. Remember that it's just "National," so if you're not in the United States, you're not allowed to participate. Come to think of it, how come a guy so British he's actually named "Nigel" gets to run our National Dance Day? It's an outrage, I tell ya. Anyway, if you want to participate in this, you'll have a choice among dances choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon, Robin Antin, and Mary Murphy. Also, you'll be dead to me. The dances will be posted on something called "the web."

Next three couples! Jordan and Tadd did that bed-based hip hop routine, which features somebody putting clothes on during a dance. That's pretty unusual, right? I thought it was fun. And they are safe!
