So the So You Think You Can Dance crew has graduated to the Kodak theatre for the finale, a cavernous, flashy set. The theatre's packed to the rafters, who obligingly go nuts for the Top Four: Jeanine, Evan, Kayla and Brandon.
Cat explains what a dance bonanza tonight's show is going to be: everyone's going to be dancing with everyone else. Well, OK, but that's ... carry the one ... six dances, so a dance every twenty minutes? I guess they can fill the rest with Mary screaming.
Adam Shankman's sitting in with the judges, and he admits that there were some other people that he expected to see here (but doesn't say who). Then he praises the audience and expresses amazement at the three thousand fans here tonight as well as the millions watching, and I'd like to say that by Season 5 maybe this show could be a little less insecure about whether anyone's actually watching. Mary also screeches at the audience, who I don't think did anything to deserve that, and she orders them to "bring it," whatever that means in terms of audience participation. And then you'd think Nigel is usually saner than Mary, but then he compares the finale to an actual gunfight at the OK Corral, because the modern-day equivalent to an Old West shootout is a bunch of people prancing around to soft rock. All right!
Then we watch some rehearsal footage of the dancers practicing a cheerleading routine with Wade Robson. The idea is that the two football jocks are hitting on two cheerleaders, who turn out to be more than the football players can handle. Each of the dancers check in to talk about things that are awesome (like dancing).
The song is Lady Gaga's "Boys, Boys, Boys," and it hilariously starts out with Evan and Brandon "throwing" a football back and forth, while Jeanine and Kayla watch them from a nearby picnic table and giggle. Then when the guys come over to hit on them, Kayla and Jeanine get off the table, shake their pompons, take off their jackets, show off their skimpy sparkly red underwear and throw the men into a tizzy and it ends with the men crouched on the stage with the woman standing over top of them. Hooray! Sexually aggressive cheerleaders!
Then Cat introduces a video montage of the previous five seasons that turns into a commercial for the Season Six, which I think starts Saturday! The commercial is very dramatic. It just needs the movie voiceover guy, saying something like, "In a world, where dance is king..." Only he died. He died!
