Tiffany and Will Wingfield (Season 4): Jazz(Sonya Tayeh)
Aw, welcome back, Will. He was never my favorite on his season (mostly because he was kind of weak when it came to partnering, which should make this routine interesting), but I can't deny he's crazy talented. And he's rocking this dreads-tied-up hairstyle that is working with that body of his. ...Sorry, where was I? Anyway, as difficult as it is to actually pay attention to Tiffany here, she's quite good, delivering her usual Courtney Galiano realness, which is most definitely a compliment.
Mary squeals that this will for sure keep Tiffany in the competition (which ... ?), and Rob makes a clumsy reference to the importance of the September 11th holiday (which ... ?). Nigel finally makes a point worth making, saying he undersold Tiffany as a "girl next door" -- no one as good as her lived next door.
Chehon and Eliana: Ballet (Marat Dokyev)
Yay, two ballet dancers! Though as my girl Drunken Bee said last night: two ballet dancers and the farthest their imaginations can stretch is The Nutcracker? That's disheartening. I also worry this could bore the kids at home, but fuck it, Chehon's butt in white tights, kiddos! Pay attention to THAT. It's a very traditional dance, but these two are performing it at a very high level.
They get a standing O from the judges, and there's some business with a handle (?!) peeking out from under Eliana's tutu that's kind of disregarded. Rob, in reference to Chehon: "No one knows how hard it is, what the man does." I'll say. Nigel talks about what a major ballet talent Marat is, and says that Eliana makes it look so easy. To his credit, Nigel makes sure the audience knows how difficult her maneuvers are, no matter how easy they look. He acknowledges Chehon's limited role in the choreography, BUT he also praises Chehon's lifts, and calls out Will struggling with a lift earlier in the evening.
