The guys have rolled up to the clubhouse, where Tara is waiting with both the boys. There is a sweet little family reunion and then Jax eases Tara into her old lady obligations by asking her to check in on Lyla. You will recall that the Tara of yore used to recoil at the idea of being lumped in with the likes of porn actresses and hookers; this one merely promises to reshuffle some patient appointments for Lyla. As if we need more proof that Opie's death will be cementing the passing of the torch from one generation to the next: Gemma doesn't even know about Opie's death yet and Tara's in the middle of making arrangements for the evening's memorial.
Then it's time for church. Jax fidgets at the table as he says, "I think Opie's been looking for a way out since Donna died." Flash to Tig, who is suddenly aware that he may have helped push Opie to his end in more ways than one and cut to Clay -- who was forcing Tig's hand every step of the way -- and Jax concluding, "Opie's never been right since. He went out a warrior." Chibs adds, "We wouldn't be sitting here if it weren't for him."
Clay then craps all over the moment by saying, "No doubt Ope made his own choice -- it's Pope forcing that choice that concerns me." Tig immediately replies, "Jax did all he could -- all he could -- to push back the threat. Two of the former nomads don't really see how a short-term 50% cut really falls under the rubric of "doing all he can" and Jax quells them with, "We never rubbed up against a guy like Pope -- an OG sitting at a table with judges, senators, CEOs." Bobby Elvis -- who really should be wearing a patch reading, "BRAINS OF THE CLUB" -- says, "He could kill us as easily with a phone call as with a bullet. We're just white smoke to this dude." Jax proposes, "We agree to his terms. Maybe we can even use this guy to our advantage." Clay is all, "'splain, please?" and Jax points out that being in good with Pope will surely help erase any lingering race problems the club has. In a business capacity, anyway. Everyone is free to continue seeing other ethnicities as a problem within the privacy of their own thick skulls. Happy begins pushing for retaliation against the four guys who killed Opie and Clay gleefully continues to stir the discord by claiming that surely, this is all related to some hateful wave of race-motivated home invasions. Jax shuts that down, pointing out that he's already raised the issue with Pope and eliminated any of his crews as the suspects. Greg the Peg immediately throws shade on Pope -- don't worry, son, I'm betting you have at least one more episode before anyone twigs to you being part of the home invasion crew! -- and Jax finally tells him to shut it because right now, everyone should be soiling their britches in fear over what Pope can do. What Jax is proposing is to take the Pope deal until they can figure out a tactical advantage of some sort. Then it's on to the next line of business: "The body should be here this afternoon. Let's do this right."
