Keckler's Apologia
Kirk makes Parmen fling himself on his knees in front of Alexander. "Parmen, listen to me, I could have had your power, but I didn't want it. I could have had your place right now, but the sight of you and your Academicians sickens me. Despite your brains, you're the most contemptible things that ever lived in this universe," Alexander tells him. Oh, now, I wouldn't go ruling out Jerry Springer guests so quickly. Parmen gets to his feet and delivers a pretty speech to Kirk about being repentant. "Of late, I've begun to think that we've become bizarre [heh] and unproductive. We're existing merely to nourish our own power. It's time for some fresh air," Parmen blathers. Spock and Kirk exchange looks and tell Parmen they really don't feel like buying the Brooklyn Bridge that day. Kirk reminds Parmen that they can "recreate that power in a matter of hours, so don't try anything." Parmen says he understands that none of them can be trusted, and that uncontrolled power can "turn saints into savages" and they can all be counted on "to live down to [their] lowest impulses." Take your Kironide weapon! Use it. Strike him down with all of your hatred and your journey towards the dark side will be complete. Kirk still refuses to believe his speechifying and shakes a finger in his face, telling him that he'd better make sure he lets his own words sink in for once. Kirk orders Parmen to move aside, calls to Alexander, and comms Scotty that they are ready to be beamed up. "I have a little surprise for you, I am bringing a visitor aboard." Kirk kneels beside an ecstatic Alexander. Soon will I rest, yes, forever sleep. Earned it I have. Twilight is upon me, soon night must fall. And in case anyone was wondering about my more-than-usual random thoughts, I was channeling Mathra in his absence. We went to see Attack of the Clones in L.A. and now plan on going out and re-watching the trilogy where actors actually ACT and have snappy lines instead of turning the whole thing into Dawson's Outerspace Creek.
