On the main stage, Nomi introduces the judges. First is Vincent Paterson, "the legendary director and choreographer." He worked with Madonna on her Blonde Ambition Tour and Evita. Next is Nancy O'Meara, a choreographer who is currently working with Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and Hannah Montana. In her off time, Nancy is a cutter. Jamie is there too, and he has another guest judge. He says she knows the Spice Girls music better than anyone. Shut up, Katie Couric? This is incredible! But what does she know about dance? Wait, it's actually Melanie "Scary Eddie Murphy's Baby Mama Spice" Brown. But what does she know about dance? Who cares -- she's totally psyched to be there. She greets the dancers and sits. Janelle interviews that she has been loving the Spice Girls for FOREVER.
Nomi says that the first challenge was designed to see how the dancers performed choreography. She tells the elimination group that someone will still be eliminated this challenge. The winning group performs first. We see the dance in real time and it's pop dancing that starts with all girls, then all boys, then couples. At one point, once they're all together, Jessica, who doesn't appear to have missed a single step, runs offstage. Nick interviews that, while in the wings, he looks up and sees Jessica and she tells him that she doesn't know what she's doing. He tells her to get back onstage and she does-- in time for her 2 8-counts of free-styling. Jamie seems really impressed with Janelle's free-style-- she ends in a split. Mochi is wearing MC Hammer pants. That's twisted. James's free-style is really cool, with lots of sharp, almost ugly movements.
After the performance, the judges applaud. Jessica immediately starts crying. Nomi asks Mel B what she thought of the performance and she says that she thought that it was quite good. Jamie notices that Jessica is crying and asks her if she's okay. She says that the performance was awful and she was dancing and all of a sudden people started moving real fast (I'm not kidding), so she ran offstage. Miguel says that it sucked for him because Jessica was his partner, but she counters that she thought it would be better if she got out of his way. Mel B says the other Spices would rack her if she ran offstage during a performance. Nomi says that Jessica would have been eliminated if she weren't in the winning group.
Vincent tells Janelle and Mochi not to dance like angry men. Jamie says that he didn't notice -- instead he noticed that Janelle was a badass. Nancy tells Miguel that he needs to "butch up" his dancing. She doesn't say why or that there is a problem with his actual dancing, only that he needs to "man up" said dancing. But she doesn't care if he's gay or straight or anything. Only that he's not butch. He nods and says, "Very much so," which is weird. Then he says, "Did I look like a fag onstage?" Mel B gets a kick out of this, but Nancy takes it with all the humor of a colostomy bag and replies, "A little bit." Whatever. ["Whatever, my ass. She choreographs High School Musical and has a bug up her ass about boys dancing faggy? Fuck that bitch." -- Joe R]
