Jerry tells us that he and Jason worked together on Jerome Robbins' Broadway, where Jason won the Tony. Applause from the dancers. This week's challenge is musical theatre. Cody interviews that he's psyched and he reminds us that he was in Grease. Jason has brought along his choreographer, Lee Martino. They've just staged a "smash run" of Damn Yankees.
Nomi is there! She tells the dancers that they will have an hour and a half to learn choreography for "Shoeless Joe From Hannibal Mo" from Damn Yankees. They'll perform for Lee and she will split them into two groups-- the winning group and the elimination group. Then, they'll perform the next day. Jerry passes out jerseys with everyone's names on them, then he says, "Let's play ball!" I wonder what Jerry thinks about this whole "masculine" debate. Cause he didn't sound like he was talking about baseball just then.
Lee explains that Damn Yankees is about a man who sells his soul to the devil to be young and virile and a baseball player. She and Jason put a new spin on the show when they did it at Reprise! I'm not excited, there's an exclamation point after the theatre's name. Jason says that the Shoeless Joe number was originally written as a hoedown. So, they updated it to be an 80's fun number. Do they consider that current?
