Jerry takes the dancers to the main stage and leaves them with Jamie, RJ, and Nick. Jamie announces that, at the end of their routines, they'll have 2 8-counts to do whatever they want to do. Miguel hates the idea. Jamie tells everyone that performance is key. They need to be able to sell themselves to the nosebleed seats. Jamie leaves and RJ and Nick work everyone's free-styling into the routines.
Nicole returns from the hospital with 15 minutes remaining before the show. She says she was told that her tendon is torn. She tells Jerry that she doesn't think that she should dance. He wishes her luck, then he's out of there. She wishes all of the dancers luck. Tovah says that she thinks it's wise for Nicole to bow out, because you can tell yourself that you're okay to continue and actually do permanent damage to yourself. As she leaves, she says that this isn't fair. Uh, yeah, it's not fair to us viewers who were hoping to see people kicked off instead of just dropping out.
On the main stage, Nomi introduces the judges. First is Vincent Paterson, "the legendary director and choreographer." He worked with Madonna on her Blonde Ambition Tour and Evita. Next is Nancy O'Meara, a choreographer who is currently working with Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and Hannah Montana. In her off time, Nancy is a cutter. Jamie is there too, and he has another guest judge. He says she knows the Spice Girls music better than anyone. Shut up, Katie Couric? This is incredible! But what does she know about dance? Wait, it's actually Melanie "Scary Eddie Murphy's Baby Mama Spice" Brown. But what does she know about dance? Who cares -- she's totally psyched to be there. She greets the dancers and sits. Janelle interviews that she has been loving the Spice Girls for FOREVER.
Nomi says that the first challenge was designed to see how the dancers performed choreography. She tells the elimination group that someone will still be eliminated this challenge. The winning group performs first. We see the dance in real time and it's pop dancing that starts with all girls, then all boys, then couples. At one point, once they're all together, Jessica, who doesn't appear to have missed a single step, runs offstage. Nick interviews that, while in the wings, he looks up and sees Jessica and she tells him that she doesn't know what she's doing. He tells her to get back onstage and she does-- in time for her 2 8-counts of free-styling. Jamie seems really impressed with Janelle's free-style-- she ends in a split. Mochi is wearing MC Hammer pants. That's twisted. James's free-style is really cool, with lots of sharp, almost ugly movements.
