Scent of a Returner

Jordi teaches a crazy overhead lift with the girl in a split that freaks everyone out. Miguel is worried that he's going to "drop the bitch (Jessica)." He seems to pick it up though. James says that Janelle is not a "subtle, feminine" girl, and that she needs to switch into "competition mode" because he doesn't want anyone to take his space. I miss James! He's funny! Janelle says that Tovah is her biggest threat because of her gorgeous legs. She announces that she wants to cut off Tovah's legs, then put them on her body. OK. Don't say stuff like that on TV. Oh my God, she can't stop talking about her JON-rah. This isn't it, by the way.

They do a run-through and everybody looks really good, until Miguel tries and fails to do the lift. He interviews that he has to get over his fear so that he can show the judges that he can do anything Cody can do. Except be a smoking-hot piece, but whatevs. He finally seems to start getting the lift as rehearsal ends.

Later, at the lofts, Nick tells Cody that he feels like he's the next to go. Cody tells him to think of something that will set him apart from the other dancers. He should go "over the top" because he doesn't think the judges will fault him for that. Nick says that he never thought he'd care about something so much, and I think it's genuinely surprising to him how much he wants to win. That makes me feel for him a little bit. Nick interviews that he wants badly to impress the judges, but he can't worry about what every person thinks, because a true artist doesn't care. He learned that individualism from his father who was an "entertainer and an artist" who would paint abstract paintings that were not universally loved. But a lot of people did love them.

MOST ANNOYING THING EVER ALERT: Miguel calls his mom on his cell with his head down on the dining room table and Janelle stroking his hair. No. He whines to his mom. In an interview, he says that he is an "extreme person" so, of course, his mom can get to him. Doesn't make sense really, does it? Essentially, he tells his mom that he's afraid and she tells him to do the best that he can. Wow, totally extreme. When he's done, he's all wet from tears and Janelle asks him if it felt good to "get it out." He says it did.
