Anne announces the winner of the challenge: Megan. And again, the world turns on the axis of Evil, not Good.
Anne then announces that this week's editorial challenge is about using their judgment in a larger playing field: Chinatown. There, she charges them with finding a hidden gem. Johanna, who speaks Chinese, excitedly predicts a win for her team. Anne continues. From these Chinatown finds, each team will design an "ELLE Living" section that showcases décor, travel, lifestyle, and culinary arts. She emphasizes that their finds must be a unique, hidden gem; apply to readers' lifestyle, and have an interesting story.
Brett summons Megan to pick the teams. Megan plans to exact her revenge on Ashlie for putting her with the losers last week. For the first team, she picks the three contestants she loathes the most: Kate, Devin, and Ashlie. Kate realizes she's been put on the loser's team. She suspects that Megan fears Ashlie and wants to put her with more inexperienced contestants. Next, Megan teams up William, CK1, and Danielle. Finally, Megan puts Johanna, Dyshaun, and Jason on her own team. Jason is baffled to be yoked to this bitchassness. Before we have a moment to think Megan is anything less than a devious skank, she TH's that she chose Jason as the team's scapegoat in case of elimination.
That night Megan validates everything Kate suspected by saying that Ashlie is her greatest competition. She interviews that she designed Team KAD (Kate, Ashlie, and Devin) with the express purpose of ousting Ashlie. Ashlie diplomatically tells Johanna that she respects Megan but will never like her. She, too, deduces that Megan put her on this team to bring her down. She warns that karma is a bitch. Honestly, as long as Ashlie makes all the decisions, Devin's steers clear of layout, and Kate is given a lollipop, I think they'll do fine.
The teams set out the next morning. Team 2 (William, Cologne, and Danielle) find a bridal shop and sit down with the owner for an interview. He explains that his store is a one-stop-shop for every element of the wedding experience. William thinks his team has done well to find this place. William, also, it seems has morphed from SLC Punk to Clark Kent overnight. It's quite startling.
Elsewhere, Megan's team capitalizes on Johanna's knowledge of Chinese... to learn about green tea. The best part is that Johanna speaks to the shop owner in Chinese, and he answers in English, so she's obviously not as fantastic at the language as she thinks. As Johanna chats with the guy, Jason tries to remind his teammates that to focus on visuals and lifestyle items, but Dyshaun shushes him. He shushes him! Jason rightly TH's that he's nervous since his team completely shut him out of the process.
