The teams return to the office and present their gifts to Anne. Megan and Johanna go first. Anne immediately calls them out for buying low-ply cashmere. Dyshaun and Kate present their brooch next. Kate tries to score a bonus point by relating the brooch to Amy's passion for art, but she can't connect it to any particular piece or movement and ultimately ends up looking kind of stupid. Danielle and Ashlie offer up their travel kit next. It includes the aforementioned "No Cooties," as well as "No Jetlag," "LintUps," and bra strap tape. Not exactly the statement of opulence Anne was going for, it seems, because she looks at them blankly as they unpack their 3,642 mini-gifts. When they finish, all she can do is ask if they really spent $250 and blurt out, "Inflation!"
Once the teams return to the bullpen, Anne gives their evaluations. She thinks Ashlie and Danielle's goodie bag was too low-end. She wishes that Johanna and Megan's cashmere throw was higher quality, though it was tasteful. As to Dyshaun and Kate's brooch, she thinks jewelry is too personal. That leaves the win to Johanna and Megan. Megan gloats that she can choose the teams and says she would love to have Johanna on her team. She doesn't add that Johanna will make a great scapegoat, but I'm sure that sound byte will come later.
Anne briefs the serfs on this week's editorial challenge. First, she invites them to the B8 party, then informs they will be there to help her identify various guests. Successful underlings will prove their knowledge of fashion world VIPs. Ashlie is excited to network, but Danielle is nervous because she's never had a celebrity encounter. Anne adds that the minions will cull pictures from the event to create a party page for ELLE's "Fashion Insider" section. The page must include exciting photos that transport the reader into the event; it must highlight the fashion at the party, and the teams must tie the page together with a unifying trend or concept. She issues the caveat that incorrectly identifying a party guest is a potential career-ender.
Malina returns to hand out dossiers and tell them they must know everything about the VIPs by tomorrow night. At this, the minions furiously write down notes, which I'm assuming include "Know everything." Yeah, I'm sure that'll be really helpful later. Sheesh. Then Malina tells Megan and Johanna, much to their chagrin, that winning the assistant task scored them spots as rival team captains. Johanna starts the kickball-style team picking, and her first choice is... Kate?! Megan smirks at Johanna's stupidity, but Johanna justifies that Kate has an excellent memory. Kate's all, "Johanna picked me first because I love parties. La la la! I am going to twirl my hair now!" Megan drafts Dyshaun first. No surprise. Johanna then opts for Danielle over Ashlie because Ashlie is a Fakey McFakerstein. Also, she probably privately rejoices at forcing Ashlie and Megan to work together. Nonetheless, Ashlie is happy to have completed her "community service hours" with Kate.
