Jessica comes into Hardman's office and accuses him of finding that other partner his new job and making Louis a senior partner. Without addressing the former, Hardman says he was within his rights, and takes exception to Jessica's accusation that he bought Louis's vote. "Your failure to promote him is a perfect example of how your judgment has harmed this firm." Jessica points out that she covered for Hardman five years ago and Hardman agrees that she ended up with the firm in the process. "My lieutenant was all you were ever meant to be." Jessica offers to let Hardman walk out and take some of his most loyal partners with him. Which is a mistake -- Hardman sees it as weakness. He says it's nice to see her doing her own dirty work this time, even if she can't have Harvey blackmail him with his dying wife or teenage daughter. This last bit is clearly news to Jessica, and Hardman presses his advantage, accusing her of being unable to control Harvey and claiming that he, Hardman, didn't even want to come back until Harvey threatened him. Jessica doesn't buy that, either. "Water under the bridge," Hardman shrugs. "We are where we are. And I like where I am." About to push Jessica off said bridge, that is.

After the ads, Harvey's not happy when Jessica tells him what happened: "How many times have you told me not to poke the bear?" Harvey proposes giving Louis a bigger bonus to buy him off, which she won't do, and naming another senior partner, which she can't do because she already named Harvey this year. Sure, that was in Season One, but the end of the previous season and the beginning of the last were only one night apart, after all. Harvey can't believe Louis is going to be the deciding vote. "And he better vote for me," Jessica tells Harvey in a way that makes it clear she's giving Harvey an order. He balks, but Jessica orders him to make nice with Louis, saying this is Harvey's chance to prove he learned something after messing up the Paul Porter thing earlier in the season. Well, whatever Harvey may or may not have learned from that experience, Jessica clearly learned fuck-all.
