Rachel visits Louis's office and gives him the signed ball she strong-armed out of Mike. He asks where she got it, and her only answer is, "I just know what a huge tennis fan you are." She leaves it there, and whatever Louis was going to say, he just asks her to close the door on her way out. "Sure thing, Louis," Rachel says with the indulgent smile of a second-tier character who desperately needs a new arc.
Donna sets some files on Harvey's desk, and turns around to see Jessica blocking the doorway. Donna tells her that Harvey's not in, but of course Jessica's there to talk to Donna. "He wanted to have this conversation, but it's my firm and I wanted you to hear it from me." Donna asks if she's being fired. "Yes," Jessica says quietly. Donna tries to keep her face from crumpling as Jessica says she appreciates everything Donna's done, but she has no choice "but to terminate your employment, effective immediately." Jessica leaves Donna standing there having a terrible last few minutes of an episode again for the second time in as many weeks.
Donna cleans out her desk, saving that mysterious can opener for last, and walks out carrying just one box away from her now totally empty workspace. She journeys to the elevator, where Harvey is waiting. Rachel and Mike see this sad tableau, and Rachel whispers to Mike, "You said he was going to fix it." "I thought he would," Mike whispers back. And he still might, but maybe not until the third season, when Donna returns as the legal secretary for Specter, Ross, and Zane (not a spoiler!). Harvey presses the call button for Donna, and she steps into it without a word being exchanged between the two of them. Ouch.
