Back at dinner, Jessica seems to have just let Mike in on a story of a law-school indiscretion of her own, the pre-Internet setting of which allows Mike to remark on how young she looks. He says it must be true what they say, which she thinks means something about true beauty. But then stupid Mike blurts, "Black don't crack." Yikes. As mortified as he is the moment he says it, Jessica should forget the cat-and-mouse crap and just fire him right now. Instead, she asks him what Harvard was like. Mike launches into a long story about how school was always easy for him, even when he got to Harvard Law. Jessica either gets it or is playing along, recognizing that he doesn't think of himself as smart -- just a guy with a mind. Jessica presses him on his reason for going into law. Mike reveals that his parents were killed in a car accident when he was eleven... and years later he found out a restaurant overserved the drunk driver who killed them, which meant he could have had a case. Jessica tells him, "Harvey was right. I hope you brought your checkbook. Dinner's on you." She gets up and leaves without answering Mike's question about what Harvey was right about. So Mike gets stiffed twice.
Instead of going home like a normal person would at this late hour, Jessica returns to the office to find Harvey sitting at her desk and acting all suspicious about Jessica's motives, apparently having once again forgotten which of them is the boss. Jessica comes out and tells Harvey, "An allegation was made that Mike Ross never went to Harvard, or any other law school for that matter." Jessica looked into it and found nothing, hence the dinner. "I wanted to see what you saw in him that makes him so special." She says Mike's the total package: "Maybe even the best of both of us." Rather than collapsing in relief, which would have been a bit of a giveaway, Harvey says he hopes this doesn't mean he'll be put in charge of recruiting. He's about to leave, but Jessica Columbos him: "He might have checked out clean, but I know that kid's full of shit." Yeah, apparently you can swear on USA after 10 PM. Jessica says there may be a record of Mike graduating from Harvard Law, "but there's no record of him graduating from any college on the face of the earth." Okay, oops. That's just sloppy. As for what this means for Harvey, she tells him, "So I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn't know. Because I don't want to do what I would do if you did. And what you're going to do is fire that goddamn kid." Fortunately, the credits start before Harvey has to make any kind of self-incriminating response.
