Nikki makes breakfast. Her brothers sit down at the table and wait, because they are boys and they are physically unable to do housework or cook. Nikki asks her brothers if they are okay, and they claim to be. Ava walks in with some double chocolate chip cookies, sent from Red's wife. Derrick asks for some, and Ava says he can have one if he gives her a kiss. Nikki is all, "Uh, before breakfast?" Ava realizes that she's right. Is Ava seriously dumb? I mean, I'm not above eating the occasional cookie for breakfast, but it doesn't seem like the type of thing you want to give to a kid. Even if the kid is somewhat annoying, like Derrick is. Ava tells the kids about a summer camp she heard about. Susannah walks downstairs and complains about some fabric she's working with, then stops when she sees the kid sitting there. Is she surprised to see the kids? Why can't she complain in front of them? Why is she working so early in the morning, anyway? Ava excuses herself to see what the fabric problem is about. Nikki pouts over her scrambled eggs.

Upstairs, Ava tries to make the fabric work on a model. There's a live model? Why is there a live model? Susannah wants to keep working on the problem, but Ava says that they need to eat breakfast with the kids, to give them a sense of consistency. The model has already walked downstairs in her bra and underwear, looking for a cup of coffee. Ava is all mortified, like there aren't forty-seven other women walking around in bikinis outside, which is the same as a bra and underwear anyway. Ava sends the model back upstairs and then continues talking about the summer camp. She notices that the boys are staring at something outside, so she follow them, and finds Jay making out with some chick in the hot tub. She reminds him about the children inside, like they've never seen people kissing before. Hell, Bradin was kissing a girl on the day his parents died. And also, why not yell at the kids for staring in the first place? Inside, Johnny pretends that someone is attacking him in the fridge, to Derrick's amusement. Ava tries to get Johnny to come to the table to eat.

Everyone sits at the table, including Jay and Susannah. Ava tries to continue talking about the summer camp, even though no one cares. The kids grasp hands to say a prayer, and everyone plays along. Ava compliments Nikki's cooking, and then says that she doesn't have to cook every day. Nikki is mute. Derrick says that his mom's birthday is next week. Ava's face falls. Derrick says he doesn't know what to get her, and he doesn't know how to get the present up to heaven. Okay, he's supposed to be nine. Isn't that a question that a five- or six-year-old would ask? Is he slow? Ava gets all serious and kneels down next to Derrick to tell him that he is the best present that his mom ever got. Um, her other two children are RIGHT THERE. Ava's all proud of herself for dodging that bullet, and she tells Bradin that she found out about basketball tryouts. Bradin says he's not playing this year. Ava won't drop it, so Bradin excuses himself from the table. Good one, Ava.
