There. That's better. "Speak for yourself! [Sob!]" So, Sam goes first and finds porn and shaving cream, so I'm thinking Dean purchased those items for himself, then gave them to Sam once he'd seen what his brother had done for him, and I'll leave it at that, because I'm getting all misty-eyed again. Over porn, people! Porn and shaving cream! "[Sniff!] Kinky! [Snrfff!]" Sam, for his part, got Dean a candy bar and some motor oil for the Impala. Awwwwww! "[Snnnrrrk!]" Dean raises his eggnog in a toast: "Merry Christmas, bro." Sam, flustered, agrees, "Yeah, yeah! Merry Christmas!" and they clink plastic cups as Clooney's version of the song hits an instrumental interlude before her final verse. There's a beautiful moment as the instrumental passes across the "Faithful friends who were dear to us will be near to us once more" bit when Sam, tears standing in his eyes, screws up his courage to say, "Hey, Dean?" but finds himself unable to continue with whatever thought he was going to express when Dean actually looks him in the eye. Instead, he just asks, "Feel like watching the game?" "Absolutely," Dean beams, letting Sam off the emotional hook, so to speak, so Sam somewhat gratefully stretches across the coffee table to flick on the TV. Underneath that bit, Rosemary's serenaded them with, "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow" and now hits, "Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow," just in time for the music to swell. When she reaches, "So have yourself a merry little Christmas now," the camera's slow pan across the two simply enjoying each other's company for once cuts outside the room, and as snow finally begins to fall in Michigan in December, we watch Sam and Dean through the motel window until the shot pulls back across the Impala parked just outside the door. The twinkly little Christmas lights lining the window reflect off Metallicar's hood for a moment before we fade, finally, to black.
Well, I'm about ready to kill myself, now. How about you, Raoul? "[Hhhnnnnnnnnh!]" I'll take that as a yes. Happy holidays to you all, and we'll see you back here in 2008. "Happy New Year's, my pretties!"
