Somewhere on the way to Kermit, Sam does finally try to call Amelia back. He just gets a generic "person you're trying to call is unavailable" message, so he throws his phone aside and settles in for another flashback.

Sam is packing up his things when Amelia walks into the bedroom and sees him. He explains he's leaving. She thinks Don must have threatened him at the bar. Sam says he just wants to do the right thing. He will then go on to spend the next few months pissing and moaning about losing his mundane life even though he's the one who gave it up.

That "one last thing" Benny had to do was say goodbye to Elizabeth, which he does by watching her from outside the cafe until Dean finally tells him it's time to go. They shake hands. "Thanks for not giving up on me, brother," Benny says. "Don't give me a reason to," Dean says, in good humor. They part ways as a guitar plucks out a few melancholy notes.

Martin is walking down a deserted road when he gets a call. "Hello, Dean," he answers, his voice suddenly rather flat where before it had been hyper. "I'm just calling to let you know the situation is resolved," Dean says. He says Benny was telling the truth and they killed the other vampire together. He also says that Benny is long gone and warns Martin not to go after him. "Don't worry, Dean, I'm long gone, too," Martin says.

Of course, by "long gone," he's referring to his mind, because his next move is to call up Benny. He does this by going back to the cafe and pretending he's lost his phone so that Elizabeth will loan him hers. By now, he's gone so far off the deep end that he even manages to make eating pie look horrifically creepy. He says something to Benny about what a nice girl Elizabeth is, and how kind she is to strangers. To an outsider, it might sound like a compliment, but Benny knows it's a threat.

He races back to the cafe and finds it dark and deserted, save for poor Elizabeth. She sits tied to a chair, looking petrified. Benny immediately starts toward her, but Martin pops up from behind her. "Lay down your arms, you unholy thing!" He raises a knife to Elizabeth's throat. Benny holds his arms out to the side to show he doesn't have a weapon. "You got me here now, why don't you just let her go and walk away?" Martin has other ideas, though. "Roy, what's going on?" Elizabeth asks in a quavering voice. Benny tries to reason with Martin, but Martin isn't exactly a reasonable man these days. Elizabeth hears them going on about Purgatory and killing people and grows more confused by the moment. Martin realizes she doesn't know about him. He cuts her neck just enough to draw a little blood. Benny has to force himself to turn away before Elizabeth can see his vampire teeth pop out. "Don't worry, he won't feed on his own flesh and blood," Martin says. "Flesh and blood?" Elizabeth asks, and this may be the most confusing part yet. Martin taunts him. "Tell her, Benny! Tell her how you're her long, lost grandpappy! Tell her about all the dead you left behind! Tell her about the monster you are!" Hearing this, Benny gets himself under control. By the time he turns back around to face Elizabeth, he's back to his cute and cuddly self.
