The Cook, The Vamp, The Hunter & His Brother

Later that night, Benny closes up the cafe and heads out into a cacophony of singing frogs and insects. He pauses for a moment, looking worried, then walks off. After a few moments, Martin appears from behind the cafe and follows him. Benny hears a rustling somewhere in the trees and goes off to investigate. Martin, some distance behind, also hears the rustling, followed by a man screaming. He whips out a knife and half tiptoes, half runs toward the sound. In the darkness, he stumbles over something and lands face down beside the dead body of the old codger from the cafe. His throat is a mangled mess of bite marks and blood. Martin pops up, eyes wide with fright, gripping his knife until he's swallowed up by the SUPERNATURAL fireball.

Elsewhere in something that passes for the United States, Dean is retrieving a metric ton of food from a '50s-style drive-in. He returns to the Impala in time to hear Sam finishing up a phone conversation. "Just hang tight until you hear from me," he says. He gets some argument from the other end because he has to say, "No, listen to me: I said hang tight!" As Dean gets into the car, Sam tells them they need to go. Dean is sad because he wanted to shovel food into his face. "We got a vamp kill, Dean," Sam says, "in Carencro, Louisiana." He aims a slightly accusatory look at his brother, expecting this will mean something to Dean. Dean's thoughts, of course, turn to food: "It's been a while since I've had some étouffee!" Bless him for pronouncing it correctly. He makes a face like he's remembering a particularly good roll in the hay. Cajun food does that to you, though. It's all velvety and spicy and steaming hot and... Where was I? Oh, right: the show.

"Who's the source?" Dean asks. "Martin Creaser," Sam answers. "Crazy Martin from the looney bin?" Dean asks, staring at his brother in disbelief. "Glendale Springs discharged him last month," Sam says. Dean is even more incredulous to learn that Sam is the one who asked Martin to take on the case. "He seemed okay, mostly," Sam says in his defense. Dean is too dumbfounded to even reply to that nonsense. "I've had him tracking Benny for the past week," Sam says. Dean drops his burger. It takes a lot to make Dean forget about food. He can't believe that Sam would send "mostly okay Martin" off on a vampire hunt. Sam gets his hackles all up, saying Martin isn't hunting. He's just... tracking. As if that would get him any less dead, if Benny were seriously a threat. "Benny is a vampire," Sam snits. "Any hunter worth his salt isn't going to just let one walk around freely!" He has apparently forgotten all about Lenore, the friendly vampire who turned out to be far less of a monster than human Gordon. Dean seems to have forgotten her, too, because he does not cite her as an example in Benny's defense. Sam fusses and snits about how he apparently he was right to call Martin. Dean listens calmly and then says, simply, "Okay." Sam is shocked. "Okay?" he echoes, clearly expecting a fight. "If Benny is in Louisiana draining folks, we should look into it," Dean says. With that, he starts up the Impala while Sam marinates in his self-righteous juices.
