It's Time To Put This Hardy Boys Thing to Bed

Dean calls Sam selfish, and tells him he's just like his father in his single-minded obsession with killing The Demon. Dean doesn't want to be the one burying them. Sam argues that the NLGTKAG is their only leverage -- oh, for the bargaining with demons that I'm sure will go so well? -- and that they can't bring it with them. Dean reluctantly agrees, holds up a gun, and thunks it into the trunk.

Though the parking lot was situated in some industrial part of town, a soaring elevated highway behind them and chain-link fences all around, we transition to the boys walking through some sort of wilderness, on their way, as far as we know, pretty much nowhere. But conveniently enough Dean pulls his brother up next to a stand of evergreens (WTF?) and says he thinks he knows what Short Lip meant by "Sunrise." Oh, you do? Let's follow your glance through the trees, Dean. Ah, the old apartment complex conveniently placed directly in your path as you walked to...nowhere in particular. A clot of children plays on the steps of the Sunrise Apartment Building. Such veritas here. Dean realizes aloud that all those people milling about in the two-foot-square area in front of the building are "human shields." Demons could be hiding among them, but the boys can't do any ass-kicking for fear of hurting real people. Dean thinks this "sucks out loud." Dean decides that they should pull the fire alarm; this will get all the humans out. Sam reminds him that the city will respond in seven minutes -- Dean: "Seven minutes exactly."Sam sneaks into the building, since he is worried that the demon(s) probably know what they both look like. How? Were their 8x10s distributed at the weekly demon meeting? Or are they telepathic or something? Oh, wait, Meg wasn't telepathic, or well, she sort of was for a bit, but then it turned out she wasn't. So, we are dealing with conveniently multiplying demons who are telepathic when it serves the plot but not when it doesn't? Deus ex machina, much? So Sam sneaks in, is briefly distracted from his task by a man who might possibly be a demon leaving the building, but finally pulls the alarm.
