Sam and Dean meet up at James's house. Among Bobby's old notes, Dean has found mention of a spell that a witch can use to create false memories in another witch's mind. How... convenient. Why do they even need the hub when a handful of Bobby's notes obviously has all the answers they ever need? Sam fills Dean in on what he saw at the police department and how it's raised his suspicions. The whole first part of this scene is really shaky. I mean that literally -- it's like someone is using a handheld camera while trying to balance on a unicycle. Maybe everybody had to get super drunk to deal with this episode. Maybe they're all just super bored at all these sit-and-talk scenes that they're struggling to remain upright. As they head into James's bedroom, Sam commends Dean on not making any bestiality jokes. It's only because the writers came up with some many that there was a logjam that prevented a single joke from escaping onto the page.

And now, for a twist on the sit-and-talk scene, we have the lie-down-and-talk with James. Sadly, only James is lying down. The brothers break the news to James that not only does the witch community want him out, but the cops seem to be building a case against him, too. Sam mentions the locked room. You'd think that the brothers would just wait till night and break into the room, as they have many a room in the past, but that would require them actually doing something. So, instead, they opt to unchain James so he can help them all use astral projection to get a peep at the room. The brothers are old hands at this, but they act like they've never done such a thing. Perhaps they were so traumatized the death of Show Barnes that the blocked it out.

They all sit on the edge of the bed. James places his hands on Sam and Dean's broad, broad shoulders, chants a few words and Latin and bam. Just like that, they're seeing inside the police department, almost as if someone took a camera and walked through the building. The music is all fast-paced and tense, trying desperately to imbue the scene with a sense of urgency, when it's really just three guys sitting there and looking at stuff. Finally, James takes them through the locked door. The entire room seems to be devoted to the recent murders. On the suspect wall is a police sketch that looks to be equal parts James and Ray Romano. Surveillance photos of James also occupy the walls. He flits down over Ed's desk and gets a look at the witness statement. It's signed by one Philippe LeChat.
