Elsewhere in town, Scott Lew has just driven over to a convenience store. Before he can get out of his truck, he gets a call. "Hey, hon," he answers. "Just grabbing some joe on the way to the hospital. Gonna bring mom her stuff." He seems some guy in a striped shirt outside the store and moans, "Aw, crap! Jeff's here." Jeff gives him a goofy smile and a big wave. Scott takes a big hit off an asthma inhaler, and then rummages around in his mom's purse for some coffee money.
By the time he walks into the convenience store, he has green goo coming out of one ear. He pours himself a cup of coffee just as Jeff comes running up to him. He says he's sorry about what happened with Scott's parents. "If there's anything I can do, just let me know," he says. Scott glares at him and asks, "How about getting me my money back?" He throws a carafe full of hot coffee into Jeff's face. Jeff is like, "Ow! My eye! I'm not supposed to get hot coffee in it!" Jeff falls to the floor, writhing around in agony. Scott grabs a shovel and starts whacking away at Jeff with the sharp end. Blood sprays across the freezer case. Scott looks up and sees himself in the security mirror. His image fizzes and turns into a rotting corpse in a Confederate soldier's uniform.
The soundtrack music is weirdly chipper when Sam and Dean arrive to check out the latest crime scene. Dean takes one look at the lump of Jeff under a bloody sheet and asks, "So, first mom goes natural born killer and now the son? What do we got -- a ghost with an Oedipus complex?" Sam raises his eyebrows. "I don't know what that means," Dean hurries to say. Totally lying. Sam points to the freezer, where the word "Sussex" is scrawled in blood. Garth joins them after talking to the authorities. He's traded in his cowboy hat for a trucker crap that he wears sideways. It's so filthy, it looks like it's been used as a yak latrine. He starts telling the Winchesters what the cops have said, but Dean is focused on Garth's cap. "Is that Bobby's hat?" Garth confirms that it is, indeed, Bobby's old cap. Dean snatches it off his head. "That's not how you wear it!" Garth pouts. They all go to have a look at the video surveillance tape, which shows a bright flash of light where Scott's head should be. They agree they've never seen anything like it before, although they've seen similar tape distortions. Sam volunteers to go talk to Sarah Alcott while Dean and Garth head off to find out about Sussex.
