Jeff asks Bruce how he'd feel about going home, and Bruce says that he would be very disappointed. Jeff breaks the news that Bruce...isn't going home -- in fact, he's the only person who is already guaranteed to survive the next tribal council. He's being sent to Exile Island for three days, and when those three days are over, he will attend tribal council and join whichever tribe winds up there once they've booted somebody. Also, of course, Bruce can hunt for the immunity idol once he's out there on EI. So, not necessarily a bad deal being picked last, although Bruce does risk being out of the loop in his tribe by the time he joins it. And his self-esteem may be permanently shattered. But other than that. So Bruce takes off for Exile Island.
Take note of the tribes that have just been formed. Casaya consists of Cirie, Melinda, Courtney, Danielle, Aras, Shane, and President Beefcake. La Mina consists of Ruth Marie, Sally, Misty, Very Pale Dan, Terry, Austin, and Nick. Although it's early, you could argue that everyone who sucks is on Casaya, while everyone who does not suck is on La Mina. Being stranded with a yoga dude and a guy coming off nicotine and a lady who's like, "Eee, plants!" is, like, an experience existing at Stephen King levels of unpleasantness.
Jeff explains that it's now time for the reward challenge, which essentially requires the entire team to race through an obstacle course, the gimmick being that there are long wooden snakes tied to various things along the way, and one person has to carry all the snakes for the team as it makes its way through the course. The reward for winning will be the traditional fishing kit -- the spear, the hooks, the net, the mask, and other things Rupert would really rather you just let him handle. Oh, and a raft, which is nice. What's hilarious is that Jeff makes the teams announce what he calls their "snake-wranglers." La Mina has chosen Nick, while Casaya has chosen Courtney. I have to think that she's going to hear "Hey, snake-wrangler!" a few times after she gets home. I know my friends would not disappoint in that regard if it were me.
