Volcano! In the preview shot many of us believed was going to turn out to be Rupert, Da paddles toward shore. From camp, Eliza can see him approaching and alerts the rest of the team. Twila reminds us in an interview that Yasur won the consulting services of Da for twenty-four hours. "We're wantin' to learn from him," she says. Of course, it comes out more like, "Were-wan-a-larn-fuh-mim," but this is the episode in which we learn that clarity in spoken language isn't everything. The women help Da to bring his boat up on shore, and I almost think one of them says "hola," but I'd really like to think not. Because I don't think Da speaks Spanish. Da does not stop for pleasantries, but heads directly up the beach to the women's camp. As Scout explains in an interview, he got right to work. I also suspect that some part of his failure to chat may have to do with the same dynamic that resulted in the women's being ignored at the opening tribal ceremony. Not that Da is being nasty to them, but that he doesn't normally socialize with groups of women. It seems at least like a possibility.
