It's now Day 2 at Chuay Gahn. Tanya is nauseated, and Ted kindly coaches her through it, claiming that her stomach needs to get used to the environment. Tanya can't relate to that, because she's younger than Ted. She pukes up a flow of water, while John watches pissily, and Ted pours her some water. Ghandia explains that it's important to stay hydrated because of the heat, so they decide to go together to find the water source. When no one follows John as he desperately tries to lead, he heads off by himself. Instead of walking out of the cave, he decides to climb up the inside walls of the cave and out through an opening at the top. The others have no interest in following him, and Ted calmly states that they'll walk around instead; he warns John to be careful and safe. John insists that he climbed out to check on their fruit trees, but the damage is done. Jan thinks the tribe shouldn't separate so quickly, but explains that some people got anxious. The rest of the tribe members walk the canoe through the water, but then they end up rock-climbing anyway. Helen voices over that they started "scaling cliffs," as we see an unflattering hind shot of Ghandia. Someone says, "And we might even run into John," but doesn't sound particularly excited by the possibility. Helen wises up and realizes that they can't possibly be on the right track to their water supply, since "there's no way" they're supposed to climb a rock every day to reach water. Because shipwrecks always conveniently occur in locations close to a clean water source. Ghandia agrees that they should stop climbing, and tells the others, "I really don't feel confident in my rock-climbing skills." She says nothing about her puzzle-piecing abilities, but we'll learn more about those later.
When the tribe members arrive back at camp, they run into John, who looks at the map and offers up another interpretation. John, Tanya, and Helen head off in the canoe, while everyone else wades after them. Then the tide comes in, so they have to swim. If you can call it that. In an interview, Ghandia moans that it was almost a mile. We rejoin Helen, John, and Tanya, who are examining the area where the water should be. John tells us that they found a puddle of brackish water; he tastes it and determines that it definitely can't be the right water source. They wander off a bit further and discover a freshwater well. They get a well! Meanwhile, the other members of the tribe are still "swimming." John thinks it would be funny if he, Helen, and Tanya told the others that the brackish water is their intended supply. In an interview, Ghandia bitches because the others didn't come out to collect them with the canoe once they were in sight of land. Maybe because that would have been ridiculous? They couldn't have fit everyone in the canoe anyway, and by the time they got started, wouldn't the swimmers already be to shore? Ghandia breastrokes and mumbles, "Retards," under her breath. She further grumbles, "We're about to freakin' drown out here" as she and Clay slowly paddle along. When they finally do reach shore, John's attempted prank falls flat. Haven't these people learned yet that the joking never works? No know-it-all likes to be the butt of a joke, and no know-nothing can understand a joke. So, since only know-it-alls and know-nothings are cast for this show, they're never amused. Also, John's not funny. Still, John proudly high-fives the others. In an interview, Ghandia tells us that she laughed and pretended to be amused, but that it wasn't time yet for jokes. But it's always time for calling people "retards."
