"The freaks just keep coming."

The first question: "No room at the inn? Look for a bed at this famous hotel chain, where a fellow traveler or two can always find comfortable lodging -- and maybe even a delicious sandwich." And there goes Gail's pretense at interest in the game. She leads Mareno off as Tom reads clue #2: "This dignified lady's world-famous recipe must be made from scratch, but scratch her surface and you'll find a whirling twister waiting to break out of the box. Find the box and it's a slam 'dunc.'" We cut to Janet smiling as she realizes the clue's about her.

We cut to Melinda saying to Bruce, "So, this is awkward, huh?" He's all, "Indeed," only not quite so directly. Melinda claims she had no idea that Bruce would be here, and ascribes their teamwork to fate, as opposed to Gail. Who, incidentally, would appear to be the subject of clue #3: "A 'Taxi Driver's' hooker would look shady with these. If you know which lady would favor the shady in her parlor, then you know where to collect your next piece."

Guess who's not paying attention? Bruce and Melinda. He's saying, "About the other night ..." and she smoothly says, "No need to explain. I think you helped us both dodge a bullet." A-ha! So he's feeling guilty because he wants to sleep with Melinda, not because he already has. Perhaps it's for the best that they're not paying attention, as clue #4 is about Bruce: "A new arrival found Daddy's box of birds and bees. Gather from this spot where men let women pick them up." Guess who's now paying attention to Bruce and Melinda's non-attention? Susan. She comes over to renew her acquaintance with Melinda, who handles the hello handshake with a lot of aplomb, considering how she was just talking about her thwarted seduction of Susan's husband. Melinda heads off to get a drink, and Susan and Bruce have a very married-people moment about what happened to Mareno. They wish each other luck with their other partners, kiss goodbye, and dash off to hang out with their respective crushes. Oh, that has no potential for disaster at all.

Janet and Tom have hit the ground running. After blowing off Laurie in front of the grocery store (can you see Janet as a Carter voter anyway?), Janet quickly reasons that the puzzle tags will be behind the boxes of Duncan Hines. As she sprints through the store, Tom comments wanly, "Man, you sure know your way around a market ..." He doesn't know whether to be amused or awed by this uncanny skill. Janet's Duncan Hines deductions pay off, and she moves on to "no room at the inn." It's now Tom's turn to steer her through what the clue means -- it's about the Hyatts. Janet says, "Ewww! [beat] I love this game. And here I thought all your parties were drunken orgies." Tom ripostes, "Well, they can't all be perfect."
