Double or Something

But as usual, the first commercial fixes everything, as the kid messes up while trying to play against her with a metal pencil case ("Who's ready to get cased?"). Finally they're moving on, in sixth place. At least Kelley doesn't have to wait through other people's turns now, now that she's been left behind all by herself. But we cut right to where the kid has downgraded all the way to playing her with a yellow clue envelope, which is not sustainable even for a junior champion. The kid gets his her seventh hug and hands out the seventh clue.

Team Metal are the first to reach the next destination, which turns out to be a restaurant. "The dreaded double Roadblock," James says, opening the clue. Cut to Phil inside the restaurant, serving a tray to a table of what he says is "a traditional Chinese dessert called hasma. But from the look he gives us, that's clearly not all. And sure enough, "These chewy tubes are the fallopian tubes of a frog." Seriously? A gross-food eating challenge in the first leg? This is not a good sign. It's not only nasty-looking, there's a lot of it -- enough to fill the insides of two scooped-out papayas. And of course they'll have to eat it all, with chopsticks, in order to get their next clue from the restaurant manager. "Who wants to go tubing?" is the question, but it's a rhetorical one because the person on each team who didn't do table tennis has to #gotubing anyway. Seriously, I'm done with these hashtags.

Abba sits down and reads, "You may not pick up the plate or the papaya from the table." He is quickly delivered the dish, which is slimy and white with exactly the incorrect amount of black flecks and looks like it has everything wrong with it. "It was like overcooked macaroni," Abba VOs, putting it mildly. But he starts slurping it off the tips of his chopsticks, which is a tricky way to eat the things. James asks how it tastes. "Papaya's my favorite fruit," Abba answers with his face down close to it. "It was." How popular can this be, even in China? Another patron is holding her nose watching this, so maybe not terribly.
