Gary and Will didn't miss her, though, and they wisely let Rob and Sheila get a little distance away before moving in to grab their clue. And then Gary even spots the signal tower from right where they are. The advantages of being six and a half feet tall. The Chippendales, meanwhile, are down at street level, frustrated and pissed off and James nearly getting hit by a bus. They spot the teachers coming down, who claim they didn't find anything. This is how you do that, Amy & Daniel. Gary & Will are unrepentant in a post-leg interview. "Being superfans, Will and I have learned that we have to weed out the strongest teams. I don't care if they are the nicest guys in the world. They are between us and the million dollars." Actually, now you're between them and the million dollars. For now.
Lexi asks a bystander for "a woman with an accubus [sic]." If I were UT-Austin, I'd sue. They're pointed to the upper level and run right up. Rob & Sheila glom onto them and follow them straight to the abacus lady, putting those two teams officially in ninth and tenth. As they run to the signal tower, they pass the Chippendales and point them in the right direction. "Oh my God, we went by it twenty times," James realizes as they approach the clue at last. At literal last, even.
Gary & Will reach the mat, and Will jumps on it with a vertical leap half his own height. "Wow," Phil says flatly, and tells them they're tam number eight. Trey & Lexi come in right behind them, and are rather stunned to learn they're team number nine. "You're in it!" Gary tells them encouragingly. Except I think they might have been hoping for better.
Rob and Sheila get directions to the Bund Signal Tower and begin their leisurely stroll in that direction. The Chippendales finally get their clue from the abacus lady in last place. "If there was ever a time to run this is it," Jaymes says as the sprint down the Bund. They seem to be catching up to the older couple on the way. At the mat, the two most recent teams to arrive are discussing who might not make it. "Good, let's get rid of the Chippendales," Gary says to Trey & Lexi. As a "superfan," the should know better than to shoot his mouth off like that about a team that's not officially Philiminated yet to another team. And anyway, "getting rid of" the Chippendales seems to be up to Team Lumberjack, who are at least jogging now. But finally, the next person to appear at the top of the stairs to the mat is Jaymes, panting up to the mat and saying, "Just say ten, please, lord."
