Bill: We also saw Drew and Kevin at the bus terminal -- I don't know why they were there...but that also threw us off.

Joe: Because they were going to the tigers.

Bill: To Kanchanaburi, right.

Miss Alli: Yes, they were going to the tigers.

Joe: So when you see other contestants in a place where you are, you think you're doing something right.

Miss Alli: Did you have enough money for the taxi?

Both, loudly: Yes.

Bill: That's the pain of it.

Joe: It was not an issue of money, it was just an issue of bad judgment. We listened to these ladies, and then when we started to talk about taking a taxicab, both of them piped in, "Oh, no, you could never take a taxicab, it's a thousand kilometers from here!" So I calculated, okay, a thousand kilometers, that's about six hundred miles...and to me, that's like jumping in a taxicab in San Francisco, and when the driver turns around and says where do you want to go, you say, "Tijuana!"

Miss Alli: But I thought that I read somewhere that the clue said you could take a cab.

Joe: It did. But we didn't think it was realistic, or possible. Just because a clue says you can do it doesn't mean that's a wise thing.

Bill: And our big mistake was, usually we checked things out two or three times. We'd go around and check every source we could, if possible, to make sure we had good information, and this is the only time in the race when we didn't do that.

Miss Alli: Do you think that at any point that your spending habits came into play at all?

Bill: Not really. I mean, um, everybody says that we spent too much money on coffee or hotels, or...you know, most of the time what we'd do is after we read a clue, if it was in the middle of the night, we'd go back to the same hotel we just checked out of. I think if there was any mistake that was made, it was that early on, all of the teams were allowed to divide up the cab fare between their sound people, or in other words -- to take a taxi, they would go to the driver and say, "What is the per person fare?" And Joe and I didn't do that.
