I'll stop the world and melt down with you

Flo and Zach find the Roadblock flag. As they ride the sampan out into the river, Flo explains that it was really peaceful, and for the first time all day, she was "back to [her] old self." EEEK! Oh, no, I'm sorry. She means her old self, as opposed to her usual self. Presumably she is talking about the self she was before she ever went on television. At any rate, this does seem to put a damper on her whining, so we can be happy about that. "My first smile of the day," she says to Zach on the boat. "I know, good," he says. Maybe he should just put a Thank You For Not Scowling sign on his backpack, and it will inspire her. They reach the Roadblock. (djeber, at TARcon: "A Roadblock is a task that only Zach may perform.") Sure enough, Zach climbs up onto the platform. As the clue rises up out of the water, Flo claps excitedly. My goodness, she is certainly nothing if not changeable. They go under the net and grab the clue, and then they're off.

Ken and Gerard drive up to the beach flag. They run to Phil. Welcome, Ken and Gerard, you are team number two. They smack each other around a little. I love them.

FloZach lands at the dock, and Flo is actually carrying her own pack. Shocking! She claims to be "feeling completely rejuvenated" as they go for a cab. She interviews that she was extremely happy to see the pit stop clue. They cab it to the beach, and on the way, she offers a little soliloquy about why she is the most put-upon girl ever. "I feel like I'm in the twilight zone, with all this honking, and...the only thing that's keeping me sane is this Diet Coke. Brings back memories of real life." Zach secretly rolls his eyes a little. It would have been nice if Flo had mentioned that the only thing keeping her sane was her incredibly understanding partner, wouldn't it? Sigh. They arrive at the pit stop and run across the beach to Phil. Welcome FloZach, you are team number three. Zach voices over that he feels "really confident that [they] can win this race," despite the part -- well, the parts -- where Flo wanted to throw in the towel. She, in turn, says, "If I break down again, I break down, but I will never threaten to quit again." And I bet she really, really means it.

In our next hour: Airline intrigue! Totem poles! The Big Kahuna! Taxi luck! And for better or for worse, someone wins. And someone whines. Hang in there, because we're almost at the finish line.
