The Gaghans arrive at the chair next, having passed not only the Paolos, but also the Weavers, who left 20 minutes before they did. I think that route change was quite a good call, indeed. Carissa and her short legs go bounding up the ladder to get to the top of the chair, and she retrieves the clue. Next, the Weavers get to the chair. Rolly gets their clue, and they find out they're going to Talladega. "I really don't want to go there," Rebecca says. Mama rather preposterously promises her she can sit in the car, which she almost certainly can't. Finally, the Paolos get their clue in Anniston and leave. I'm so pleased that we were able to spend this time together at the giant office chair. My heart, she beats with the pulse of America.
Back at the track, Wally and the Tonyas are pedaling. The Linzes arrive and take off. The Schroeders are next. When the Bransens finish, they receive a clue telling them to go to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where they have to find something Phil refers to as the "Southern Colonel." He explains that they'll have to figure out that it's a trailer-home dealership where they'll find their next clue.
The pinks get to Talladega. They pull their clue and, shrieking their heads off as usual, they head for the bikes. If they could fuse themselves into a collective larynx and harness the power of its voice, they could melt steel.
The Linzes are pedaling. "Out of the way!" Nick (I think) yells. And then he viciously, mercilessly rings their little bike bell, which I love. Nick may be acceptable. I'm saying may. Although really, when you watch team after team mocking the stupidity of what they're doing, you have to wonder. You can do that once or twice, but when everything they do makes them look dweeby, it's a problem. Over on the Schroeder bike, the perpetually sensitive Mark is commenting, "Can you imagine how pissed the Florida team is going to be when they get here?"
Speaking of which, in the Weaver car, the new strategy that's emerging is just to get in and get out of Talladega as soon as possible. Better than expecting to stay in the car, I'd say. When they get there and read the clue (ahead of the Gaghans again...how does that keep happening?), Mama reads the part about the Super Speedway, and Rachel immediately yells, "No! Mommy, we caaan't." Interestingly, Mama has the same reaction at first, shaking her head and saying, "No." Same with Rebecca. The question of whether they would go through with it or not, of course, would be a little more suspenseful if last week's previews hadn't shown them walking along the track.
