Danza finds the cave. They get inside and read the clue. "Chicken Island? Where's that?" Margarita asks. Frank: "Right across from Turkey Island." Heeeeee hee hee! See, that's a really goofy, dumb joke, but it is exactly the joke I would have made in that situation. I exactly would have said something about Turkey Island, or Dumplings Island, or some similar lame-o thing. Just another piece of the bizarre synergy between me and Loud Pushy Frank.
Frat boat. Drew is looking for other contestants, and Kevin points out that they're a little too far away to see them. "They would look like ants from here." They're not happy about how the rock-climbing looks. They land at Raile Beach and get outfitted at the King. As Drew gets set with his climbing gear, he can't resist turning on and then turning off the little light on his helmet -- and that's why we love him. He also comments as they walk along the beach, "This is so beautiful," and you know what? He's right. It's an awfully nice beach. It also contains a girl. "Did you see that girl?" Drew says in a hushed tone. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," Kevin waves him off. He's been depressed ever since he had to leave that greeter in Italy. They take off on the hike up the hill. "What are we hangin' on to?" Kevin asks. "The vines, like Tarzan?" Drew suggests. This hike looks like it has some real unpleasantness in terms of the little ropy things whipping you on the legs. This ain't no ordinary hike.
At the top of the hike, Kevin pulls the Detour clue. As soon as he sees "Hike" and "Climb," Kev wants to go for "Climb," but Drew wants to talk about it a little more. Once he's seen both, Drew suggests that they climb. "That's a great idea, Drew," Kevin snarks. They get into their climbing gear. "I'm not a big fan of climbing, but we're ready to go," Drew says warily. Kevin: "How do you know? You've never done it before." Drew, as if Kevin is an idiot: "Well, that's why I've never done it before -- because I'm not a big fan of it." Kevin: "You could be a big fan, and you just don't know it." Heh. Incidentally, today Drew is wearing a t-shirt that not only advertises his fraternity, but also has scribbled messages of love to his mom, as well as someone named "Rose." (The originally-intended El-Jem necklace recipient, one might suspect?)
The Frat Rock-Climbing Sequence. I'd say, in summing up this scene, that it's safe to say that these guys are, for the first time, paying a price for not being quite as physically powerful as some of the teams they're competing against. They have tremendous perseverance, though, and they keep going. "Hang in there, brother, hang in there," Kevin advises at one point. Eventually, Drew makes it up to the top, and offers Kevin his foot to grab onto. "What if the shoe comes off?" Kevin asks. "The shoe ain't comin' off, I'm good," Drew assures him. They complete the climb, and that's pure New York grit, is what that is. As Drew says, "Pretty tough for a guy who's never climbed up anything except a fire escape, maybe." They pull the clue, and notice that "Sea, Land & Trek" closes at 5:00. They're taking off as fast as they can, just to see whether they can make it. They have fifteen minutes.
