James rehangs his scale, and now gets to start loading it. He begins with one of the boulders, punning, "Thank you, you rock!" It's like he's trying to write my homepage titles sometimes. After some adjustments, he gets a perfect balance, a round of applause from the ever-present crowd of locals, and Team Metal's next clue. It's a Detour: "Straw Dogs" or "Bamboo Jungle." I never saw either version of the movie Straw Dogs, but I know enough not to pick that one. Fortunately, the Detour option by that name does not involve a violent home invasion and siege. Instead, the teams will have to help make an "eco-friendly jute bag." This entails whipping unprocessed jute fibers over a bed of huge nails to comb out the tangles. After doing this with twenty bundles, they'll have to carry a large bundle of raw jute over to where the machines weave them into bags. Their next clue will be waiting at the end of the production line, but the thing someone holds up for the camera isn't a yellow envelope, but a length of jute fabric with a picture of a large pink and white house appliquéd onto it. That must be where they'll have to go next, but it looks like the kind of place you'd want to go to anyway.
For Bamboo Jungle, they'll have to transport bamboo from a lumberyard -- or the bamboo version of a lumberyard, whatever you'd call that -- to a construction site across town, where it will be used for scaffolding. Phil's explaining this from the bambooyard, where there are Amazing Flags marking poles of different sizes standing up in racks. There are thick ten-footers, narrow ten-footers, and mammoth twenty-footers, which are going to be super-awkward. Each team will have to load a total of forty poles onto a bicycle rickshaw and schlep them across town through the reliably crowded streets. Good luck finding twenty feet of space in a straight line anywhere in this city, but that's the deal. When the construction foreman is satisfied, he'll hand them a short length of bamboo that has the identical picture of that same pink-and-white house printed on it, which serves as their next clue. That's only fair; you don't want to give the people doing one Detour option a cryptic little cartoon and then tell the people doing the other one, "Go here." James & Abba decide on the bamboo task.
Josh & Brent appear to be lost just looking for the taxi stand. Abbie & Ryan, meanwhile, are the second team to find the Roadblock clue, and they stupidly decide that the statement "It ain't heavy" should be taken literally, thus this would be good for Abbie to do. Oh, dear. Abbie gets to work, admitting that she has no idea what she's doing.
