Bates & Anthony, the fourth-place team, are starting off this leg at 4:20 AM. I don't know why it never occurred to me before now how appropriate that is. They interview about their alliance's plan to U-Turn the other alliance consisting of Team YouTube and the derby moms. Bates says they've been planning this since the start of the race, which I think is going back a little far. But Mona & Beth, who start one minute later, interview obliviously in their cab that since Bates & Anthony are also at the back of the pack with them, the hockey brothers might get U-Turned first. Don't count on that, ladies. Better get used to the idea that between the U-Turn and the Speed Bump you're facing as a result of losing last week's non-elimination leg, you're probably going to have to do four tasks this leg.
Team Newlywed gets to the airport and finds Team YouTube just standing around waiting at 4:35. Max & Katie claim not to have booked anything yet either, and make a big show of wandering off as though in search of more information. Joey & Meghan buy their act so thoroughly that they get a ten-percent discount by applying for a credit account.
Bates & Anthony and the country singers show up next, and wonder where Max & Katie are. While wandering, Max says they should probably go over and join the herd. Actually he says "act like sheep," so I was being diplomatic. The derby moms finally reach the airport at about the time the ticket windows start opening, so it must be around five o'clock by now. Seeing other teams at the front of the line, Mona & Beth decide to cut over to the First Class window to see if there's faster help there. While the hockey brothers try to firm up U-Turn plans with Max & Katie in the main line, what ends up happening is that Joey & Meghan get on the flight that lands at 1:00 PM, and so do Mona & Beth, but after that it's sold out.
As of now, it looks like the country singers and the hockey brothers won't be arriving in Edinburgh until 4:00 PM. "Just go have a little happy dance, you know you're so excited," Caroline encourages them good-naturedly, which they pretty much go off and do. What Joey & Meghan and Mona & Beth are suddenly most excited about is the possibility of U-Turning them, which would be valid, if the hockey brothers and the country singers were content to land three hours after everyone else. Instead, The Fab Four decide to explore other options of getting in sooner. Of course none of these teams know yet that Max & Katie are getting in even earlier, at 10:40, putting them ahead of everyone... that is, until the hockey brothers hit the Brussels Airlines counter and get themselves booked on that same flight that Team Newlywed are already on. The country singers have the same luck, and they all think they're the only ones on the flight. "So who are we U-Turning?" Anthony asks the other three. The sign of a successful racer: always thinking ahead.
