The next morning when the airport opens, the teams all run in and pull a Roadblock clue that asks who feels "the need for speed." Phil explains that this will require the Roadblocker to go up in a fighter plane and take direction from the pilot in executing a loop. Roadblockers will include Rolly, Megan, Lauren, Brian, and Sharon. One of the things I like is that Megan is doing more and more things, and her brothers are more and more comfortable having her do things. I realize I'm trying extra-hard to like them because I'd like to care what happens, so just...go with it.
Rolly, Megan, and Sharon all go up at the same time. Mama Weaver prays. The props start up, and as all the rest of the team members watch, the first three planes head out. There is much applause. Megan's brothers refer to her as "Air Biscuit," which I'm sure she appreciated. I'm pretty confident Sars did. ["Roger that." -- Sars] The instructors take the flyers on a few maneuvers just to get started. Megan, in particular, cackles delightfully at the experience.
Rolly pulls on the stick and does his loop. There's not that much to report, except for the vaguely erotic "pull on the stick" business, and I just don't have the energy. Plus, he's 14, and unlike his sisters, I have some sense of what's okay to say about him and what will make people faint from inappropriateness. Sharon and Megan also get the loop done on the first attempt, so apparently, this Roadblock really is not the most challenging with which we have ever been confronted. I think I do like Megan. I tend to trust a woman with a good throaty cackle. As they wait for Megan's return, the Linz boys tease Brian, who's waiting to go in the next round, about how scary it's going to be with just him and the "joystick between [his] legs," and yes, we all get it, Fratty McBeerBong. The three planes that went up first all land, and Rolly, Megan, and Sharon return to their teams with a clue while Lauren and Brian head out toward the planes.
The clue the lead teams have retrieved sends them to the Grand Canyon, and as Phil explains, this is about 77 miles. There, they'll have to find a spot called Lipan Point and get their next clue. The Weavers are the first to leave, followed by the Linzes and Gadzookskis. In the car, Megan is still buzzing with excitement over her adventure. And this is where I figured it out about Nick and Alex, by the way, because the person I thought was Nick is all, "I want directions from Nick, and only from Nick." That kind of tipped me off that something was wrong. They're probably too dopey for him to be trying anything Zen, you know?
