Kris and Amanda get to the clue box, and as they read it aloud, he corrects her that it's "Austrian," not "Australian Folly." But they quickly agree to do that one, probably because it seems a lot closer now that they don't have to go to Australia to do it. They reach the tent and begin plastering each other. "Ooh, that was lemon," she says after getting her second faceful of pie. They also finish after about three exchanges, and head out. "This pie is actually delicious," Kris says as they walk along, while Amanda samples a handful off his shoulder. Apparently it's difficult to leave this task in a bad mood.
Linda's savior drops her off at the cable car station. "Dang, I came way off mark!" she tells us, while the driver cackles at her some more. She jogs back to the clue box, and Steve greets her with a sincere, "Good job, Linda." I think he's happy she made it back at all. As they get in the car, he assures her that they're not far behind. She thanks him for not being mad at her, and we hear him saying that he couldn't imagine running the race without Linda. "She gets out here, and she'll run against the twenty-year olds, and she does it for me! I respect her for that." Big talk for a guy who's still wearing pie. Oops, did I just give away which Detour option they go with?
While waiting for their wood piece, Amanda says she's having a lot of fun. "This is actually the first task I've gotten to done?" "Gotten to do?" Kris corrects again. They'd better give me something more to work with, because I don't want to have to just think of them as Mademoiselle Malaprop and Hector the Corrector. They get their disk, and as they drive, Kris says he looks like he's wearing bad hair gel. "Something about Mary times ten," he jokes, which cracks Kris up. It's There's Something about Mary, Kris.
Mel and Mike reach the Detour clue box in third place, if you can believe it. They're going for the Segways. "We're Segway pros," Mike says as he straps on his helmet. Kind of amazing how easy that is for me to believe.
Margie and Luke are not in agreement when they reach the Detour in fourth place. "I knew the cake thing would take forever," Luke says in a post-leg solo interview, in which his shirt and hair are absolutely caked with pie. "What can I do? She's my mom." They get to work smashing, and Margie's obviously enjoying it a lot more than Luke is. Meanwhile, Mel and Mike are on the Segway course. "I think we picked the longest challenge," Mel says as he leads Mike over a speed bump. But that remains to be seen, because Margie and Luke have smashed so many pies they're starting to slip in the mess they're making. Mel and Mike reach the finish line for the Segway course, still in third. Luke has had enough of the pie task, but Margie refuses to switch. "Maybe we're close now," she says, and pastes him again. Plus she's having too much fun. And while she's doing that, Mel and Mike get their Pit Stop clue.
