Coffee Is For Closers

Matchstick shows up at their retail space, and Marcela is once again called upon to re-explain the task for everyone who wandered in during the first Veronica Mars commercial break. She also reiterates how she's up against Jim once again, and there's "no way" she's going to lose twice. So it seems Marcela was also watching Veronica Mars up to this point, because: not. She tells her team that the plan is pastries. Miles of pastries, as far as the eye can see, attracting customers to the shop. Amanda interviews that "Marcela thinks in food," and her entire managerial style is to bring everything back to food, and she lost sight of the fact that the task was about coffee. Leslie offers to go out and get a lay of the neighborhood, and Marcela joins her, jumping at the chance to get away from Amanda and Ryan, who continue to vent their frustrations. Ryan complains about how he has to "find a pastry chef for Marcela so we can sell pastries instead of coffee makers." They bitch that they have no direction and no delegation, and I sort of feel them there, even if they're being jerks about it. Outside, Marcela asks Leslie if she should have developed a marketing strategy before jumping right into finding a pastry chef. Leslie is pretty much like, dude, we need to just take what we have and go with it. Honestly, I don't even think the pastry thing is that bad. What goes better with coffee than pastries? Cigarettes, that's what. Maybe they should have found themselves a celebrity Philip Morris executive? Because right now, Amanda and Ryan are thinking about calling up a celebrity agent and throwing $15,000 at some famous person or another. Amanda wants to invite a celebrity "with a following" in order to "get people into the store." So Ryan, independent of Marcela, starts making some phone calls. He gets an agent who can offer him, among others, Paul Shaffer or Mary Tyler Moore. Oh, MTM. Available to hawk coffee to pedestrians on no notice? You didn't make it, after all. Marcela interviews, lamenting that the team goal has seemingly shifted to lose the task and sandbag Marcela. She sits down with Amanda and asks for (rather than demands, which was probably what was in order) some input. Amanda, in a ridiculously smug tone, tells Marcela that she doesn't want to "step on [her] toes" and thus won't offer any ideas. Seriously, what a bitch. Marcela is asking for help, but Amanda is just as happy to see her wither on the vine. Marcela can only come back with, "I can't do this by myself." Oh, this is pathetic, y'all.
