Dawna takes Sarah with her to meet the executives at their venue, Capitale. The head guy, James LaForce, throws a lot of stuff at them that they need to think about. Dawna takes notes. "Dawna seems to have her nose sort of buried in her clipboard -- I'm not getting a sense that she's got a very inspired vision for what this evening should be," James LaForce prisses to get on camera. Whatever, dude, she's taking notes so she can have everything covered. Do you really expect her simply to memorize everything you say?
Liz Claiborne. Amanda and Howie go over a flip-book of the new fashion line. Amanda explains that they were put in charge of picking out the clothing: "That put a lot of responsibility in my hands. I mean, if the fashion show didn't come off, the whole event would flop!" What exactly are you worried about? That you're going to get sent home? Oops -- you already were! Okay, seriously, I do get that she's got a work ethic here and is concerned about doing right by Dawna, and that's all admirable and shit, but still, I just don't get that she has much of a need to be stressed out. Amanda and Howie meet with Liz Claiborne's creative director and a fashion stylist and then meander around the room to examine the outfits hanging on the walls. Amanda points out a brown-toned line and says, "Well, I tell you what -- I think this right here to me seems a little bit frumpy, like, boring for a runway, because I don't know if I would ever in my LIFE wear that." Oh, dear. The Creative Director blinks. Howie attempts to help Amanda remove her evidently non-frumpy foot from her mouth as he says quickly, "I mean, you gotta think of the Liz customer, though. Not that that's frumpy and boring, but..." He trails off, realizing that he's got more than enough of his own foot to contend with without being concerned with Amanda's. "See, I'm not the fashion expert," Amanda backpedals to the Lizzites, "you're both probably thinking, 'That the best outfit in the place!'" The Lizzites don't say anything as Howie and Amanda babble about getting outfits that are all the same color scheme. Howie starts saying something about "six of this, six of this, and six of that." "So, you're going to let NUMBERS be the deciding factor? Or the strength of the looks?" a Lizzite questions. Well, the first choice seems to be working for those Lost folks. The question stops Howie and Amanda in their tracks. I know that neither of these former (im)Clones are that bright or compelling in this scene, but what the BLOODY HELL is the point of having a Liz Claiborne creative director and fashion stylist there in the room if they aren't going to provide advice and guidance?! I mean, come ON! It's their business and they're the experts, so why are they letting Amanda and Howie flounder? Howie confessionals that while he might work in fashion, he's involved more on the business end rather than the creative end. The Creative Director reminds them that their models will be there tomorrow morning and they'll have to have their final outfits all picked out and accessorized, and adds vaguely, "Keep your eye on the prize, you know, what makes a good show." But they DON'T know, so why don't you HELP them, lady?! The Lizzites leave, having been as useless as humanly possible. Amanda starts firing out outfit choices, and Howie says, "Ummmm..."
