After the show, Helene jokes that they both looked like morons. She tells us that the slide show was "definitely a surprise." Yeah, right. Wherever did those photos come from? She says the photos got them talking about their pasts. They lounge about on some doublewide deck chaise. Aaron asks Helene if she thinks she's been more open than he has. Helene doesn't think Aaron's been very open at all. At least somebody finally noticed. He says it's tough because he likes Helene and doesn't want to "mislead" her. How would being open with her mislead her? He's getting into trouble because he's not telling these women how he feels about them. He's so obsessed with not getting caught in a direct lie that he's not saying anything at all. He says that he knows what he's thinking and feeling, but that it's hard for him to say it to Helene, because he's afraid that something might change and that eventually Helene will call him a liar. See? So he's not going to let these women know what he really thinks of them, so they can't call him out on it later. That's a brilliant strategy! Maybe Aaron shouldn't be so quick to dismiss women like Christi and Heather, who declare their love for him nearly instantaneously. They don't even care how he feels about them as long as they get the ring and the picket fence. Helene practically rolls her eyes at Aaron at this explanation, then tells us what Aaron just said about not wanting to have to retract his feelings. Heather shows that she is indeed a trained psychologist when she tells us that Aaron's behavior threw up a few "red flags."
Aaron and Helene head outside in order to drink and stuff. Helene tells Aaron, "I don't play a game to lose. I'm not an idiot or anything like that. I mean, I don't think this a game either...but if I don't feel I can win, I'm not gonna try. You know what I'm saying?" I sort of think Helene's playing Aaron here, but I've come to the conclusion that you pretty much have to play Aaron in order to get him to say anything of substance. Gwen tried the direct approach, only to have her questions reflected back to her. Heather tried the really direct approach and got complete non-responsiveness. These vague hints that she's on her way out are really the only way Helene can get Aaron to admit whether or not she still means something to him. Aaron blathers that he wants to give all the remaining women a fair chance, but that it's hard for him not to lavish his attention on Helene. He says that he wants to have the opportunity to "get to know [Helene] more." Helene raises an eyebrow because she's become totally aware of Aaron's tiny list of lines. Aaron says that he hopes that he "cleared some stuff up for [her.]" He seems to think he has. Helene's rolling her eyes about as much as I am. She says she sort of thinks she knows what he means, but not really. Essentially, she's trying to pin down whether or not she should be expecting another rose. Helene says she's been stupid and naïve in the past, so she's not going to do so now. She jokes that she's going to leave tomorrow. But she's just joking. I though for a moment that Aaron was going to lean in for a kiss to try to shut her up, but instead he drags her over to the Jacuzzi.
