With that, it's challenge time! They're in Long Beach, and will have the opportunity to take 10 pounds off of their goal weight. There are ten pairs of sand hills, and inside each there will be either a red X or a green arrow. The green arrows will point to the next pair of sand hills on the course, and the contestants will have 30 minutes to find all five green arrows, grab a flagpole at the end of the course, then run to the finish line at the end of a pier and raise said flagpole. The challenge begins, and the contestants divide up to attack the first two sand hills. While everyone digs, Gina kind of stands around, saying that she knows she wouldn't be the strongest digger. They finally discover the first arrow, and everyone is already bushed. Gina "worries" that she might "accidentally" hit Joe in the head with a shovel. Danni does get a shovel in the ankle, but powers through nonetheless. With one minute left, the contestants have made it to the flagpole but have a ways to go to the finish line. And then Gina falls. Of course she does. Joe hoists her up rather indelicately, then basically drags her by her hand to the pier. Somewhat oddly, she thinks it's sweet. And then the contestants make it to the end of the pier and hoist up the flagpole with six seconds to spare. They seemed to cover an awful lot of ground in a suspiciously short time, and have dropped another ten pounds off of their goal weight.
Oh my God, and then fucking JARED visits the ranch. He comes bearing Subway sandwiches, his old big guy pants and maybe hair plugs. Jared has kept his weight off for 15 years, and says that Subway saved his life. He also announces that the winner of this season will get to star in a Subway commercial with him. We can vote online for a previous season fan favorite to star in the commercial, too. And boy, Jared must have been so relieved when he could finally eat something other than Subway. Let's hope that he never tried to ask for ketchup.
And then it's last chance workout time! Or IS IT? The contestants head to the top of a hill where the trainers await under some sort of fear-of-heights torture device. They're sick of the drama in the house, and Bob wants everyone to calm down for a minute. A gentleman named Phillip tells the contestants that this is an open ropes course. Team building! Leadership! Things you would dread at your office retreat! Etcetera! The ropes course is hella high and scary looking, and to get through it the contestants have to work together and trust one another. Well, good luck with that. Jillian notes that they totally don't have to trust each together for good, just enough to get through this challenge and not kill each other. The teams are: Jeff and Francelina, Danni and Jackson, Alex and Jillian, Joe and Gina. Everyone loves that last one. And of course Bob and Dolvett are paired, and will go first and show how this whole thing goes. If you recall, Bob is not crazy about heights. Dolvett is scared too! And I guess to get across the ropes, you have to hold hands with your partner (while standing on ropes directly across from each other) to stay balanced. At the midpoints the ropes get very far apart, and despite their best efforts the two trainers plummet to their death. No, just kidding, they are gently released to the ground and then proceed to make out furiously, high on adrenaline and trust.
