And then it's Dr. "Death" Huizenga's favorite time of the year -- when he finally gets to deliver some good news! He meets with Danni, to tell her that she's undergone the biggest transformation in three months that the show has ever seen. He projects a close-up of Danni's "Pre" stomach, and her super fly skinny current stomach! She's gained 19 pounds of muscle! Damn, girl. Jillian confirms that this is an amazing feat, and a testament to Danni's focus.
With that, it's time for the final challenge of the season. The contestants hike up a snowy mountain, which seems like a waste of being in California. Sami reminds them of all the crazy things they've done in the name of gaining a one-pound advantage or letter from home, and tells them they have one more mountain to climb -- literally, and while putting back on all the weight they've lost, as per tradition. Joe will carry 120 pounds; Danni will carry 84; Jeff will carry 112; Jackson will carry 93; and Gina will carry 82. The weight will be on a sled that they'll have to pull to the top of the mountain. Instead of shedding weight at markers for each week, as they usually do, they'll have to pick up weight along the way. The winner will get a one-pound advantage, which is more valuable than ever at this stage.
The challenge begins! Joe is extra motivated to beat Danni this time. Speaking of Danni, she's trying not to go balls-out at the beginning, as a slow and steady pace might be less amenable to her usual strategy of tripping and taking a giant spill at the outset. The various markers see the contestants heading down memory lane and reminiscing about which weeks were the best for them, and which were rather unpleasant. In keeping with tradition, Danni and Joe are in close competition for the top spot, with Joe taking a slight lead. Danni gives it her all, but can't overcome Joe. He wins the one-pound advantage and Danni has to fall to the ground to avoid being burned to death by the flying sparks that mark his victory. Everyone else finishes, triumph of the spirit, yadda yadda. And then Ali Sweeney starts a calorie-burning snowball fight!
And then there's an in-show ad for Progresso Soups, because there is some product placement reckoning to be done in this penultimate episode of the season.
The kids prepare to leave the campus, and get big hugs from the adult contestants and trainers. Bob notes that they've set a very high bar for any kids who come on to the show in the future, and they get a hearty round of applause for their role in changing childhood obesity in America. Biingo tells us that his journey isn't over yet, and won't be until he makes the baseball team. Sunny's goal is to fit into her perfect prom dress. And Lindsay's goal of course is to be on the cheerleading squad next year. Jeff tells us that he's excited to see how the kids have transformed even further at the finale.
