Then there's Sam, who really looks phenomenally different than when he started this journey. I have to say that Sam's new look is not my favorite. It really screams "racial profiling." And he's so hot! It's a bit of a waste. As he tries to digest this moment, his parents, Joyce and Doug, wait in the wings. They emerge, and also give him a lei. Joyce cries as she tells us that Sam has turned his whole life around. His face is much brighter, and he's happy with himself. Both Joyce and Doug are very proud of Sam, which he finds very moving. He says that he's sought approval from his family for so long, and this is the icing on the cake.
Daris is next, and I can't wait to see how he looks with his new makeover. Apparently I'm not the only one, since we cut to commercials before we see his new look. And wow! He looks a LOT different with close-cropped hair. I'm not sure that I'm totally in favor of it, but he definitely has sort of a beefy Midwesterner guy vibe to him now, and his ensemble really makes him look thin. Daris's sister and father, Brandi and Dan, wait to surprise him. There are hugs all around, and Daris is very happy to see them. Brandi is proud. She says that Daris has been big for so long, and she knows that he's had to work really hard to get where he is. Daris is now fitting into 34-inch waist jeans, which clearly makes him very happy. Dan tells Daris that he's looking really good. Daris says that it's a great feeling to see his family's reaction. He's totally going to make someone the best boyfriend!
Finally, we have Mike. He looks great. The 'fro is gone, and he looks really svelte and handsome. He tells us that he can't imagine being happier than he is right now. Until, that is, his sisters Mariastella and Rosangelea (which, wow) come out to greet him. There are tears and laughter all at once, and one of the sisters tells Mike that he has to teach her how to do this. Mike tells her that it's not that hard, which is lies. But it's worth it, of course. Rosangela says that Michael is the world to her. She starts crying as she talks about her journey, and how now she feels like the bigger sister. The show should just install a salad bar in that family's home.
