Cool Running

In week one, Ashley talked about what a crappy life she's had. Her dad got sick and died, and she let her weight get out of control. Now, she feels very accomplished, which is what her dad wanted for her. She's happy and healthy, as he would have liked. Ashley notes that there are a lot of distractions at home, and she's desperately trying not to fall into any of her old traps. Ashley tells Sherry that she's going out tonight, and plans not to drink. Sherry notes that Ashley partied a bunch, particularly after her dad died. It was a coping mechanism, but Sherry's glad that she's moving away from it and to more healthy ways of dealing. Sherry says that she's excited to hear Ashley wanting to make good choices and live her life to the fullest.

Daris used to be embarrassed to go to the gym or run on a trail, but now he's running down the street with pride. He's psyched about marathon training and says he's the runner of the group. He wants to be the fastest. Ashley trains as well, and says that this is intense for her. She's never been the runner on the ranch, and it's a big challenge. However, she thinks it's cool and has a good attitude about the whole thing. Five months ago, Mike was miserable and didn't have a life. Now, he's getting ready to run 26.2 miles. He says he's scared to death, and that this seems crazy. He can't imagine what in the heck he's going to feel like during or after the marathon, but vows to be strong and proud and get the job done.

Ashley gives Mike a call, and they commiserate about how hard it is to be at home. Mike says that he's not losing weight, but in fact has gained weight, which can't be good. He tells her that he's preparing to do a mix of running and walking for the marathon, and Ashley's thinking about a similar strategy. They decide to do the marathon together, and give each other support and encouragement and a friendly shove throughout.

And hey! Celebrity chef Curtis Stone heads to Oklahoma to see Daris, who won a visit at the last weigh-in. Daris tells Curtis that he's training hard and eating right, and can't hang out where he used to because they don't have food that he can eat. Curtis's big surprise is to put a "Daris" section on the menu at said restaurant, which I think is called Budro's. Curtis and Daris go shopping, and then prepare some healthy menu options. One is a spicy black bean soup, followed by a smoked trout dip, a green bean salad, and grilled pork tenderloin. Daris has a party at Budro's with all of his friends, and they enjoy the new, healthier selections. Daris says that his community's behind him, and he wants to help inspire them to achieve their goals and stay healthy.
