The Five Percent Solution

Each of the contestants tells their adoring crowds how many pounds they've lost (minus the kids, of course) and what they're doing to stay healthy. Joe's twin brother has been working out at home and losing weight, which saves them both the effort of looking in the mirror. Danni makes an emotional speech about finding the strength that she never knew she had. Gina's skinny husband wants to bone her. Tears abound in all of the home cities, along with smiles and hugs. A lot of this happiness is probably based in relief of not having to see Jillian for a while.

Just when the contestants think they can relax a bit, they get a letter from back on the ranch. It says that if they can lose five percent of their body weight over the course of two weeks, they'll have immunity at the next weigh-in. Danni is excited about this news, and Joe is determined to try to meet the goal even though he notes that it's going to be difficult at home with all of its corresponding distractions and temptations. They also have to lead a workout for their friends, fans and community as part of the whole "Challenge America" thing. If The Biggest Loser wanted me to have time to work out, it would limit this show to a reasonable single hour.

Jackson is concerned about his eating habits while at home and with good reason. There's nothing in the fridge that he can really eat. His mom suggests sausage, which doesn't really fit the bill. The singular vegetable in the fridge is iceberg lettuce, and Jackson explains to her what spaghetti squash is and why it's healthy and delicious. They talk about the dangers of sodium, and what bad fats are. Jackson's mom tells us that he was a small, underweight baby, and so they started stuffing him with food. And, well, you know what happened after that. She loves food and loves to cook and loves to feed Jackson, and cries as she says it's going to be a big change. But she's completely supportive and seems like a really awesome mom. Jackson cries as he says he doesn't want his mom to think that this is her fault, because there's no one to blame. That's nice, even if it might not be entirely true.

And then it's time to catch up with Alex, who is down to 165 pounds! That's 75 pounds lost. She gets her makeover and photo shoot, and looks good and is feeling great. Her big smile is a nice change!
