The contestants head to the gym and discover that their machines have been moved and Sami is there. There's also a little makeshift locker room set up. Everyone is suspicious and nervous. Sami announces that this is the site of their challenge. They'll be competing in teams in a challenge that is four quarters long. Just like football players! But they'll be doing what they always do in the gym -- trying to burn as many calories as possible. The team with the highest average of calories burned after four quarters wins. Each quarter is 15 minutes long, and the trainers will be on hand to coach them. The winning team will get a spa day. That's the devil's prize! Jillian would be gnashing her teeth right now. The ladies are quite excited about it, though.
The start whistle is blown, and everyone starts rowing or biking or whatever they do to burn a lot of calories. Ah, and there's Dolvett. After three weeks, my initial reaction is still, "Swoon." He places each of his people on the machines where they are strongest. Anna wants her three remaining Blue Team members to go as fast as possible in the first quarter, and give her all that they have. Bob has a similar strategy, which is to go balls-out for fifteen minutes. He boxes with Jennifer and has her doing some other insane looking arm exercises. Bob notes that people don't expect Jennifer to have a high calorie burn, due to her knee injury and exercise limitations, but he's going to show everyone that she can do it. Everyone gets really, really tired in the first quarter as they give all that they've got. There's lots of wailing and whooping, and frankly it's a little disturbing. The first quarter ends with the Black Team in first place. They have an average of 283 calories burned. The Red Team is behind them with 238 calories, while the Blue Team trails with 183. I really, really hope that the Blue Team doesn't lose the weigh-in again. It's no fun watching your grandparents get picked off.
