At home that night, Rainy fixes food for the family as Judith makes herself a martini. Adam bolts down some food and then rushes over to Caroline's house, but not before making an Asian joke that Daniel assures him is not funny. Rainy tries to get Judith to eat something, so that she's not drinking on an empty stomach. Peter rushes in and sets down his own martini glass, but refuses a refill because he's driving to meet his friend Tim. Daniel wonders if Tim is gay too, but can't bring himself to say the word "gay." Peter says that Tim is just a study partner. Judith says that she never liked Peter's ex-boyfriend, Josh. Daniel assures Peter that he'll meet someone else. Judith and Peter snicker over Daniel's awkwardness, but Peter gives each of his parents a big hug before leaving the house. After Peter leaves, Judith and Daniel realize that one of them needs to go deal with Grace. They flip a coin over it, and Daniel loses.
Daniel heads upstairs and is about to pop a Vicodin, but of course, Jesus shows up. Daniel insists that he doesn't need a pill to talk to his daughter, and then admits that he's lying. Jesus urges him to just knock on her door. Daniel prepares to do so, but before he can make a move, Grace opens the door and, startled by her father's unexpected presence, proclaims, "Dad! Jesus!" Daniel looks behind him like, "You can see him too?" but recovers in time. Grace accuses him of lurking, and Daniel says that he just wants to talk. Grace asks to go to the bathroom first. Daniel enters her room and starts looking at her comics. She really needs to password-protect that computer. Grace is kind of outraged when she returns to find Daniel spying, but simmers down when Daniel compliments her artwork. He comes upon Grace's rendition of her mother: Grace's cartoon Judith is dressed in leather and carrying whips. Daniel says that Grace is still grounded, but that he thinks they might be able to scrape up the money for her animation equipment anyway. Grace sincerely apologizes for the trouble she's caused. Daniel hugs her and kisses her forehead. As he's leaving, he asks why he's not in the comic, since everyone else is. Grace calls him a freak, and he leaves.
Judith and Daniel prepare for bed and banter about how homosexuality is genetic, and wonder where Peter got his gay gene. Judith wins when she points out Daniel's uncle, who was a high-school drama teacher and drove a light blue convertible Bug with daisies on the dashboard. Daniel seeks Judith's reassurance that Peter is a good kid, and she says that he is. She asks Daniel to take some of the leftover funeral food to Victoria's house in the morning. They start macking, but Judith quickly pulls away to go to sleep until Daniel reminds her that it's Friday, which is apparently their sex night, so they do it.
