Title Card: "CHESS." A child sleeps on his father. Well, I assume it's his father. There's a comic book called "CAPE." His father gets up and grabs a gun and badge. A convenient news report tells us that there have been threats against the new police chief by "the masked killer known as Chess." There's a blogger called "Orwell" that even the police station uses for information. There are corrupt cops. Our (probable) hero arrives at the press conference and dispatches people. The police chief gets into a car and Chess is there! In the car! He fires up some kind of blowtorchy gas thing and runs away, and the car eventually explodes in a huge spectacular kaboom that somehow doesn't affect the guy standing right next to it.

Credits. This show will feature both Summer Glau and Vinnie Jones.

Title Card: "ORWELL." A guy hits a punching bag, then sits down. He sits down, then a kid walks in to do the same. There's some father-son bonding along the lines of "You gotta turn your hips." Oh, the dude is Vince. Vince's partner Marty comes over and drops a lot of exposition about how some private company is going to take over the police department. Later, Vince is in bed with his wife (Dana, I guess) talking about becoming a private detective.

Peter Fleming is the owner of ARK, which is taking over the police department. Marty takes Vince to Peter's enormous office with a view. We learn that this is "Palm City." Vince exposits about how his father was a Sheriff here, and Peter says that he must have mixed feelings. "They need heroes like Vince Faraday".

Vince's kid has a bunch of Space Invader wallpaper in his bedroom. Vince reads The Cape comic book to his son. He appears to be reading dialogue and captions that aren't on the pages at all.

Dana's asleep. Vince is at his computer. Orwell takes over his computer to tell him that Palm City needs honest cops like him, then starts blathering about something called L-9, which Dominic Raoul, a.k.a. "Scales," brought into the city. A massive shipment is moving in by train tonight. "Let's see if you're still a cop, Vince. We'll be in touch."

Shipping yard. Marty walks past a circus train for Max Malini's Fantastic Oddities, looking for Vince. Vince has a doll with an L-9 canister in it. It's in an ARK freight car full of boxes of dolls, and he's already checked three boxes to find the same. Marty makes excuses for ARK, saying ARK's a big company, and that he'll make some calls, but then some armored goons stick a hypo in Vince's neck. Marty tries to tell them that he's got this, but Vince is already injected.
