Vince wakes up in front of a chess board. Marty is standing there looking at him. Oh, and Vince is tied to a chair. A gentleman with an odd accent and a Rocketeer coat enters and accuses Vince of using "the Latvian Gambit" and adds that they're in the "middle game." Oh, and he's got a silly leather half-hood on. He's got more chess analogies, but what it boils down to is that Dana and Trip are vulnerable. Finally, he takes off the silly hood, and it's Peter Fleming with silly contact lenses. Vince's skin will be found under the chief's fingernails. Goons nail the hood onto Vince's head, and Vince is set free to run through the trainyard.
There are helicopters and coppers out there. A millions bullets are fired. Vince rips the hood off and runs past that circus train.
Dana and Trip watch the news. To be fair, this is totally something that would be on the news. Trip is paying attention, and he tells Dana that the newspeople said that Chess was Vince. Vince hides under a big gas-filled tank, and the cops keep firing. Vince hits something below him and drops through a hatch just as the bullets cause a huge explosion. Dana and Trip are horrified! Vince shields himself with the door he just fell through, and passes out.
Peter is at a news conference and says that Palm City will have the first fully private police force.
Someone drags unconscious Vince somewhere. It's a circus! There's a contortionist, a little person, and a fire-eater. There's also a stiltwalker and an aerialist. As you may know, stiltwalkers are always on stilts, and aerialists are always dangling from ropes. Rollo (the small gentleman) punches Vince until he wakes up. Keith David, dressed like a gypsy, guesses Vince's weight at 187 and accuses Vince of being Chess. He turns on the news, which backs up his claim. Then he hits some organ stings and introduces himself as Max Malini. "We are the carnival of crime. We are professional bank robbers." Vince says he's a cop, and Max has Rollo punch Vince a few more times. Vince starts to get dragged off to have his fingers cut off, but he desperately tells them that he has a master key to a bank. He also calls Rollo "Tattoo", and "cue ball."
