In a Theme Park Future, Parents Love Their Children

Meanwhile, a family checks in: Brian, his wife, and their two sons. They are also black, which I find weird. Like, is there a good reason to clump all the black stories into one place? It makes it stick out all the more that these are the only black people we've seen on the show besides that one bellhop. So, check-in lady -- not the coked-up one from last week, a different one -- tells them that there is good news and bad news. The room they requested is unavailable...but she is giving them a complimentary upgrade. She says this like they are going to "ooh" and "aah," but please. It's not like they're paying for their room anyway. Brian "explains" that "I promised the boys a Disney vacation, but instead of going to Disney first, we decided to come to Vegas." In the middle of this assault on common sense, we focus on the older of the boys, who looks like he's about ready to explode. And yeah, I feel you, kid, because that is a great big box of bullshit your dad just handed you. "That way, myself and my wife get a vacation here and then get enough money to go to Disney later with the boys." Ouch. That's so dumb, Brian. Even if you supply the missing fact, which again is that they aren't paying for the Vegas part of the trip, FOX is, so if he can parlay his cash into Disney money this week, they'll have gotten two vacations for free. But if you don't know that, and maybe regardless, it goes from being just stupid to being incredibly selfish. I mean, I'm sure he's a great dad and all, but Jesus. He keeps talking about how the upgrade means he's going to win big, like it's a sign or something. It isn't, and if it were, it would be a sign that sometimes bad things happen and then other good things happen. You didn't get the room you wanted, Brian. Think about it. Their older son tries to put on a happy face and acts impressed by the room. You can tell there's been intergenerational tension, because Brian's immediate response is "Disneyland's next." I wish that were true.
