Valley Of The Shadow

Johnny drives over to the building with the stone lions, which are much smaller than the ones at the New York Public Library. He cautiouslyenters the building . The building has clearly been abandoned for some time. You can tell because of the mess and the dripping water. Johnny busts out a flashlight. Blink, dammit! Blink! He didn't blink. Johnny walks into another room. Hee! The graffiti on the wall says "Rad." Johnny finds a safe, and touches the combination lock. He goes into a vision of a bank manager opening the safe, and gets the combination. The safe creaks open. Johnny shines his flashlight in, and finds Markoff Junior unconscious on the floor. He begins CPR. The kid coughs weakly.

Ritter appears in the doorway to the vault, a gun in each hand, and says, "And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again and he revived." Johnny says they need to get the kid to the hospital. Ritter says that police will be there soon, and that they'll take him. Johnny protests that he didn't tell the police where to come. Ritter says that he did, by leaving a subtle clue behind for Walt to figure out. Ritter says he wanted to have a little time with Johnny before they all go their separate ways. Johnny asks "Francis" why he did it. Ritter says that his mother used to call him "Francis Albert" after Sinatra, which earned him a lot of black eyes as a kid. Johnny asks why they are there. Ritter says that the people have broken their contract with God, just like in ancient times. Johnny points out that when that happened ,God sent Nebuchadnezzar to punish them. Ritter reminds him that God also sent Daniel, the prophet. Johnny says he's no Daniel. Ritter thinks Johnny has proved it through the whole fiery-furnace bit. Johnny denies it again. Ritter squeaks out a laugh and says he can't believe Johnny doesn't see it. Johnny calmly claims that he's just a man who recovered from a coma. Ritter brings up the restaurant fire, but Johnny says it was just a psychic vision. Ritter brings up every incident that happened last season, and Johnny denies that it meant anything Biblical. Okay, not really, but I'm just trying to save some time here. Could we move on? Ritter says it's refreshing to encounter a modest messenger from God. Johnny angrily says that the kid's pulse is weak. Ritter tells Johnny to go ahead and save him, because we all want to be saved, sometimes from ourselves. Johnny nods. Ritter recites: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me." It's weird to hear that Psalm without the ending, "And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Ritter tells Johnny, "Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me." That could totally be taken the wrong way, but this isn't Oz. Ritter tells Johnny that he was a teacher once, and he should teach the people like Daniel, so that they might save themselves.
