Who the Heck Are These Guys?

Mr. Holbrook talks to a goon (I don't think it's Carter), who is now driving a van full of other goons. The goon reports that a neighbor of the Buchanans' identified Madeline Jackson, and that he has a pretty good idea where Sean and Leila are going. "We'll be there shortly," he promises, as his goons cock their weapons.

Waiting for the magical code-breaking computer to spit out their next plot-related destination, Sean and Leila chat. He tells her that Michael and Samantha are his family, too. Although he doesn't mention Mrs. Buchanan. Why would he? She's dead, and no one cares about dead people. Leila asks if Sean thinks Samantha is still alive, and he says he doesn't know. That was not a productive scene.

A van pulls up to a 24-hour gas station in Atlanta. There's a lot of business about a bag drop and it's hard to follow. The upshot is that a woman gets into a van (which may or may not be the same van) with a hypodermic needle. Samantha is in there, and she looks scared.

Mysterious Hacker Dude reports that all the names in Michael's files are of girls, not women. And the numbers relate to some shell corporations in Los Angeles. And just then! The van full of goons pulls up in front of the building. They sure got there fast. Depending on where "there" is.

Let's take a break while I explain what bugs me about all this instant-travel stuff. This show is trying to pretend that it's about timelines. All this "FOURTEEN YEARS EARLIER" stuff is trying to create the impression of a show that knows exactly when everything happened in the past, but they obviously don't even know when anything's happening in the present.

So much for the break. Back to the action! The goons bust into the front door without buzzing, and it doesn't appear to be locked. Madeline could have just opened it instead of making Sean and Leila beg. The Hacker Dude does something with his phone, and he, Madeline, Sean and Leila leg it out to the fire escape. As everyone runs away, the Hacker Dude's place blows up (KABOOM!), sending Sean and Leila sprawling. When they get up, Madeline and Hacker Dude have vanished. Well, you two should have kept up, then. Now Madeline and Hacker Dude have escaped to the secret Exposition Netherworld they live in, and Sean and Leila are on their own. Say, I wonder if Agent Collier went to that same Exposition Netherworld after she dropped Carter off with the FBI office that immediately set him free.
